Subrural: Karen Snouffer, Jenn Figg and Matthew McCormack
on view April 30 – June 7, 2013

DUBLIN, Ohio (April 10, 2013) Subrural: Karen Snouffer, Jenn Figg and Matthew McCormack is a site-specific mixed-media installation for Dublin Arts Council, exploring the similarities and differences between urban and rural environments. Through the immersive artworks, the artists seek to address the cultural anxiety experienced where these familiar, yet unpredictable, places and ecologies intersect. The exhibition opens on April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., with a reception with the artists at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin. The exhibition and the opening reception are free of charge.

Repeated forms in painted plastic and screen are metaphors for the environmental commonalities. Contorted vines, rusting power towers and swaths of disembodied insect wings capture the experience of driving between the city and country.

Three artists will create the site-specific installation. Karen Snouffer whose home and studio are in Gambier, Ohio, teaches painting, drawing and multimedia at Kenyon College. Snouffer concentrates on installation and multimedia. Jenn Figg is an assistant professor of art at Towson University near Baltimore. She is pursuing a doctorate in media, art and text at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. Matthew McCormack, who also lives in Baltimore, works with technology, kinetic sculpture and blown glass. He is pursuing an interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts at Towson University.

Subrural will remain on view through June 7, 2013. Exhibition hours are Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
