Making art about art is a common strategy. It often comes off as just a short-lived art world inside joke. I would encourage artists to mine their experience and/or perception of a larger reality, if their goal is to make truly great art. - Rainey Knudson on 35th Annual Master’s Thesis Exhibition at Blaffer Art Museum

The 5th Dallas Art Fair crammed Dallas with art this weekend. Glasstire Editor Bill Davenport had fun trying to see it all [stay tuned for the second, longer installation of Bill's fair round-up].
It’s a tough arena for art. Squashed, hurried, badly lit, and out of context, but there are enough works with enough space and enough guts to take this kind of abuse to make this Dallas art Fair the least depressing I’ve seen.

Veronica Salinas visits San Antonio artist/bon vivant Franco Mondini-Ruiz's out-of-this-world petting zoo, aviary, and painting studio for an opulent Easter-themed extravaganza.
I can only describe the compound as being the West Side meets Versailles—where lavish gardens, art, cacti, sculptures, ponds and a botanica create an exotic Garden of Eden-meets-hacienda oasis.

Katie Geha reads between the lines at the info/shop of artist collective Temporary Services, at Texas State in San Marcos.
One of the main tenets of Temporary Services is that art and life are not separate. A roadside memorial is just as artful as a painting by de Kooning, and the service they provide is information.
