design for death

designboom organizes a design competition on the theme of death care in collaboration with the LIEN FOUNDATION and ACM FOUNDATION,
and supported by the NATIONAL FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION (NFDA).

we are engaging with creative talent around the world to stimulate critical thinking and to create a dialogue where different ideas
and perceptions can freely be exchanged. what is the future of deathcare? how can design change the way we say goodbye?
we invite participants to examine the cultural aspects, to foster openness within the established traditions/systems around death
and dying: in such a discussion on what is appropriate for the specific experiential context of the end of life, controversial topics might arise.

since life began, the encasement of mortal remains has taken on different shapes and sizes in the various ages, reflecting the cultural
and religious overtones of the times. historically memorialization was limited to the elite and only practiced in the highest societal classes,
today it is considered a fundamental human right for all people. as societies evolve, the customs and traditions surrounding funerals and
memorialization also change (e.g. there is an increased interest in environmentally-friendly funerals and burials)...

A NEW CATALOGUE FOR A CONTEMPORARY LIFESTYLE.

At the Milan week of design, Rexa Design has presented its new catalogue and the updates to the Fonte, Ergo-nomic,

Rexa Design intercepts and expresses contemporary moods in a new catalogue packed with ideas and atmospheres.
A true Lifestyle System that recounts the bath as a central living space in the home, an inviting, restful niche devoted to personal care
and wellbeing, to relaxation, to regeneration. Complete proposals for furnishings and accessories, produced entirely at the Rexa plant,
“tailored” to every need.

The decision to use only DuPont™ Corian® techno-surface, an exclusive product and brand of DuPont, was a strategic one, central
to development of these collections: on the one hand, its exceptional plasticity opens exciting new design horizons; on the other, its unique features
