Jazz Star Showcased by Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce

Cyrille Aimee to Perform at the 4th Annual Village Jazz Alive

New York, NY – April 15, 2012 – The 4th Annual Village Jazz Alive event, hosted by the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce (GVCCC), will be held on May 20th, 2013 at DROM in the East Village. The event celebrates the enduring music culture of New York City and honors the outstanding musicians who have helped to create and sustain it.

This years’ event celebrates vocalist and jazz prodigy Cyrille Aimee. Cyrille has won many awards such as the Montreux Jazz Festival Competition in 2007, the International Theleonious Monk Competition in 2010, and the International Sarah Vaughan Competition in 2012. "[Cyrille's] voice is like fine whiskey – oaky and smooth, with a hint of smokiness,” as described by The Washington Post. Her vocals are featured in the award-winning French documentary “Kings of Pastry." In a much cherished encounter with Bobby McFerrin, Cyrille is inspired to develop her loop-pedal solo performance.

Past honorees at Village Jazz Alive include iconic musicians Art D’Lugoff, Randy Weston, and Odetta. This year marks the first of the Young Artist Series, to feature up-and-coming artists. “I am so honored to be a part of this event and represent young jazz musicians in NYC,” said Cyrille. “I came to NY because I wanted to learn about jazz and share the stage with the incredible talents that are everywhere in this city. I feel like art in general in NY is evolving all the time and it's great to know there is an audience here to watch it happen.”

“We’re very excited to host Cyrille Aimee at our annual Village Jazz Alive event. This event gives us a chance to bring the community together and celebrate jazz in the village. We expect this year’s Jazz Alive to be full of energy and a great success,” said Tom Gray, Executive Director, GVCCC.
