Klemens Gasser & Tanja Grunert are pleased to announce our first solo exhibition with Rashawn Griffin. Please save the date, Wednesday, May 8th, opening 6 - 8 pm, and the show will run through Saturday, July 15th.
Rashawn Grifï¬n was born in 1980 in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Olathe, Kansas. Having recieved his MFA from Yale University in 2005 he currently resides between Kansas City and New York City. He was a 2006 resident of the Studio Museum in Harlem, AIR program.
His work has been exhibited widely, including the 2008 Whitney Biennial, a two-person exhibition RSVP at the Studio Museum, as well as Freeway Balconies at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, Germany, curated by Collier Schorr and Black Now curated by Fred Wilson at the Longwood Gallery in the Bronx, New York. Griffin had a solo exhibition at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in 2012.
Rashawn Grifï¬n’s diverse practice is grounded in the poetic investigation of social space. Using found everyday materials, from bed sheets to decorative tassels; Grifï¬n’s elegant compositions awaken displaced memories of a collective experience, taking us on a journey that collapses time and space.
