Art Platform—Los Angeles Partners with Nightlong Interactive Art Event, GLOW Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, April 23, 2013—
Art Platform—Los Angeles, (26-29 September 2013) is proud to announce its partnership with Glow 2013. From dusk-to-dawn, September 28 - 29, 2013, Glow will transform Santa Monica’s beaches with contemporary public art and experimental music. Art Platform will aid in one of Glow’s core values--commissioned artwork--by sponsoring a new installation by artist Glenn Kaino. This will be the third iteration of both art happenings, and this year they will take place concurrently during the last weekend of September transforming West Los Angeles into a destination for momentous modern and contemporary art events.

Glow was born out of Jean Blaise’s 2002 Nuit Blanche, “White Night,” or “All-Nighter.” The first annual nightlong social event of site-specific visual art and performance took place in Paris, but was quickly adopted by cities worldwide. Nuit Blanche has been emulated in Melbourne, Toronto, Montreal, Rome, Brussels, Madrid, and Riga. In 2008, Santa Monica’s Glow was the first art event of its kind in the United States. It is a uniquely playful and unifying night: the works are participatory, unique to the environment, and the event is free. Glow celebrates Santa Monica and its attendees’ creative energy to make art outside a museum or gallery.

Art Platform will sponsor a new work by one of this year’s four lead artists, Glenn Kaino. Kaino’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and he was selected to represent the United States at the Cairo Biennale 2013. He has had solo exhibitions at the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; REDCAT, Los Angeles, CA; the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria, New York; and Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Santa Monica, CA. His sculptures and environments invite the viewer to explore intangible concepts, history, and cultural identity. He is inspired by the unique heartbeat of a city, and the work by this Los Angeles native will help set the tone at Glow 2013.

The third edition of Art Platform – Los Angeles, the modern and contemporary art fair, will take place 26 – 29 September 2013 at the historic Barker Hangar located at the Santa Monica Air Center, West Los Angeles’ premier airport for private aviation. Art Platform features approximately 100 extraordinary local and international galleries, special exhibitions by individual artists, leading non-profit organizations, alternative art spaces and more.

Show Dates and Location:
General Admission: Friday 27 September - Sunday 29 September 2013
Location: The Barker Hangar, 3021 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, California 90405 USA
