Dans l'esprit du mois du dessin à Paris, la Galerie ARCTURUS présente pour la première fois à Paris, Juliette LOSQ, une jeune artiste anglaise, dont le travail a déjà été très remarqué et récompensé en Angleterre. Elle est notamment dans la collection Saatchi.
Au travers d’un trait fin, dense et ferme d’encre et aquarelle, elle crée un maillage profond qui nous transporte à la frontière entre l’univers urbain et la nature sauvage. Un lieu étrange, riant en apparence, mais un peu inquiétant quand on plonge son regard dans ce foisonnement de verdure au milieu duquel fourmillent graffitis, poubelles, murs éboulés, animaux étranges. Le tout dans un camaïeu de gris, vert, brun, dégageant une poésie personnelle envoûtante.
Juliette LOSQ associe ces espaces à la notion anthropologique de “la clairière” – où nous nous sentons à la fois le plus en sécurité et le plus vulnérables : la forêt pourrait bien enlever dans ses profondeurs un promeneur trop insouciant errant trop près du bord. Généralement ignorés par les habitants des villes, ces régions désolées offrent un havre de paix aux sombres créatures mythologiques associées aux aspects les plus sauvages du comportement humain, marginales dans l’esprit de tous sauf pour celui des “outsiders”.

During the month of the drawing in Paris, the Galerie ARCTURUS presents for the first time in Paris, Juliette LOSQ, a young English artist, whose work has already been highly noted and rewarded in England. She has paintings in the Saatchi collection.
Through a dense and firm line in ink and watercolour, she creates a deep mesh that transports us to the border between the urban universe and wild nature. A strange place, funny in appearance, but a bit worrying when you plunge your eye in its abundance of greenery in the middle of which teem graffiti, garbage cans, fallen walls, strange animals. All in a camaieu of gray, green, brown, emitting a haunting personal poetry.
Losq associates these spaces with the anthropological notion of 'The Clearing' - where we feel at our most safe and yet our most vulnerable: stray too close to the edge and the forest may snatch a careless wanderer into its depths. . Generally shunned by city-dwellers, these gloomy regions offer haven to the darkly mythological creatures associated with the more animalistic aspects of human behaviour, marginal in the minds of all but ‘outsiders’
"In the dust of this planet", she takes us, in a vision of the world inspired by the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries English Gothic references while being very personal and contemporary
