& COMMUNITY LISTINGS

Liz Hess GalleryLancaster ArtWalk is a twice annual contemplative self-guided tour of downtown galleries.

Special exhibitions, meet-the-artist events, children’s activities and live demonstrations, workshops, performance arts, interactive projects and more are all available for discovery within the walkable, bustling independent galleries of Lancaster city.

Highlights for this spring's ArtWalk highlights several mixtures of photography and mobile. Several galleries are exhibiting photography exhibitions, Curating the City is launching their interactive mobile smartphone app, and a new special stop is a photography exhibition in a "mobile gallery" housed in a Uhaul rental truck.

J.A. Sharp Custom Jeweler is showcasing photography from the local landscape by Patrick Cooney including images of Demuth Museum, Thaddeus Stevens College and more. The North Museum of Natural History and Science is exhibiting "The Land of Fire and Ice". The exhibit chronicles images captured from 30 travelers’ experiences as they roamed Iceland.

Curating the City is an interactive walk through Lancaster's architecture and history guided by an app on your smartphone. Participants simply download the app or open the mobile webpage, and then follow along. Three distinctive tours are available: mobile tour (all ages), city creatures (ages 5-10) and cemetery tour (ages 10 and up).

A Uhaul rental truck will be parked along N. Prince St. The exhibition is called Parked (sponsored by Coe Camera) and is a collaborative project from local artists Ole Hongvanthong and Taylor Brown. The two artists are using this project as a way to push their creativity to new levels. Each month, they produce a new series of photos and then find a new place to park (and setup) their mobile gallery in the back of a rental truck.
