Original drawings, sculptures, texts and films have transformed the Great Park Gallery into a walk-in community storybook. Deborah Aschheim: Involuntary Memories: Marine Corps Air Station El Toro and the Nixon Years, a Great Park gallery exhibition guest curated by Meg Linton opens on Saturday, April 27th from 7 to 9 pm at the Palm Court Arts Complex and will remain on view until July 14th. This thought provoking exhibition comprises excerpts of interviews with Park visitors conducted during Aschheim's seven-month residency at the Great Park displayed along side dozens of original iconic hand drawn illustrations and two new sculptures based on images from the Nixon years created by Aschheim in response to stories shared by members of the community. This vivid tapestry of art and community memory is accompanied by an extensive excerpts from The Silent Majority: Super 8 Home Movies from the Nixon White House lensed by H.R. Haldeman, John Erlichman and Dwight Chapin preserved and compiled by Penny Lane and Brian Frye and recently screened in New York by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art.
The public is invited to an exhibition opening reception on Saturday, April 27 from 7 to 9pm.
