Pre-Derby Formal with Musical Performance by Baby Dee and Little Annie at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft

Louisville, KY - April 23, 2013 - The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (KMAC) presents an avant-garde evening of costume and cabaret in celebration of Louisville's famous Derby week. On Tuesday, April 30th from 7-10pm the public is invited to the KMAC Pre-Derby Formal featuring entertainment by the extravagant pianist Baby Dee and the balladic singer Little Annie. Doors open at 7pm, musical performance begins at 8pm. Tickets for ages 21 & Under are $10, Museum Members are $20, and Non-Member General is $30. Tickets include: A complimentary welcome drink and a commemorative KMAC ceramic shot glass made by local artist Dan Marshall (21 & Older ONLY, I.D. Required). DJ Music provided by Astro Black Records. Cocktails curated by Brown-Forman and Woodford Reserve. Black Rock Grille hamburgers and Louisville Dessert Food Trucks will be available for food purchases in front of the Museum.

In keeping with the festive Derby attire, the official dress for the KMAC Pre-Derby Formal is Once Worn formal wear. Abandoned prom, tux, bridesmaid, suit or Derby dress from any decade is encouraged. Nitty Gritty Vintage (996 Barret Avenue) clothing store is generously offering a 20% discount on purchases made specifically for this event. An Award for Best Dressed will be given during the evening.

The KMAC Performance Series is an ongoing program to engage the public with local and national artists who present contemporary and/or experimental music as digital performance. Baby Dee and Little Annie have spent decades defying categorization and are positioned at the vanguard of late 20th and early 21st century piano performance.  The duo are currently on tour in support of their recent record collaboration, State of Grace, which features such luminaries and modern mavericks as Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Eric Chenaux, Chris Cundy (Guillemots, Cold Specks) and Jordan Hunt (The Irrepressibles, The Hidden Cameras).

Little Annie aka Annie Anxiety Bandez, hails from New York and is a smokey contralto, raconteur and restless spirit who has spent the last 30 years creating an immense body of work.  She is a chanteuse and lyricist, a self-taught painter, and multimedia artist. Her music is a blend of tortured soul/ sardonic humor & wild love.

Baby Dee is an enchanting composer who combines performance art with her unique talent as a classically trained harpist and a circus sideshow veteran. Born in 1953 in Cleveland, OH. she is an extraordinary talent on piano, harp and accordion. Since her first record in 2001 she has gained many musical admirers and her sound is quintessentially Dee.

Dee & Annie intend to recruit a choir of 8-12 local singers to perform 3 or 4 songs with them during the evening's performance.
