Marcos Ramírez ERRE's new series of works, entitled Playing Series Serious, uses humor, word play, and the format of crossword, game search, Sudoku, labyrinth, and maze puzzles to continue his strategic appropriation of language-based signage. His work addresses the internalization of politics into the habitual vernacular of the everyday. Testing the limits of cognition as well as the conventions of word and sign puzzles, Playing Series Serious also explores translation, misunderstanding and the impossibility of choosing to recognize what is hiding in plain sight.

Current Exhibition: Luis De Jesus Los Angeles presents Marcos Ramírez “ERRE” in his first solo exhibition at the gallery, titled Playing Series Serious on view through May 11, 2013.

Where does talent end and hype begin? A beginner's guide to spotting potential—and the art of the (beat-the-rush) deal
By Dale Hrabi | Wall Street Journal | March 29, 2013

WE HANG ALL KINDS of things on our walls—cunningly designed calendars, steer skulls, vintage Scandinavian rugs—but, for many of us, original art remains the holy grail. The thought of navigating the contemporary art market with its thickets of hype, however, can be intimidating. New York-based art advisers Thea Westreich Wagner and Ethan Wagner have made a career out of cutting through that hype, especially when it comes to the relatively affordable but unproven work of emerging artists. Well-known collectors themselves who have amassed over 800 contemporary pieces, the couple runs Thea Westreich Art Advisory Services, which since 1982 has been helping individuals build collections that vary in focus from Impressionism to video art.

WOMEN ON THE VERGE
After a record Morisot sale in London, art collectors are scrambling to identify undervalued female artists; the $1 million club
By Ellen Gamerman & Mary M. Lane | Wall Street Journal | April 18, 2013

A lady in a bonnet is shaking up the art world.

When "After Lunch," Berthe Morisot's portrait of a doe-eyed woman, sold for $10.9 million in February, it set a record as the most expensive work ever sold by a female artist at auction. It also helped power a wave of interest among collectors and dealers looking to identify undervalued female artists.

Dealers and auction experts are using several tactics as they scour the market. One is to find female artists whose works, backgrounds or artistic movements mirror those of prohibitively expensive male artists. These artists include: Joan Mitchell, who worked in the shadows of Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock; Natalia Goncharova, one of the turn-of-the-century Russian artists led by Wassily Kandinsky; and Agnes Martin, who forged a path in a male-dominated period led by minimalists like Donald Judd.
