Modern art makes a splash in Portland this summer with the special exhibition The William S. Paley Collection: A Taste for Modernism from The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

This exhibition offers a master class in the key movements and figures that revolutionized art and culture of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Some of the most important artists of the period, including Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Alberto Giacometti, and Francis Bacon are among the artist whose paintings, sculpture, and works on paper are in this incredible collection.

Henry N. Cobb: The Streets of Falmouth Neck: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

On Tuesday, June 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Charles Shipman Payson Building, the PMA welcomes the building’s architect, Henry N. Cobb as the 2013 Bernard Osher Lecture Series speaker. In this illustrated lecture, Cobb will discuss Portland’s streets and squares and the ongoing dialogue between the memory of the city’s past, preoccupation with its present, and dream of its future.

Tickets are $10 for PMA members and $15 for non-members. Purchase tickets here or call (207) 775-6148. Lecture will be held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.

Every Month

General PMA Tours take place daily at 2 p.m. Meet in the Selma Wolf Black Great Hall.

Gallery Talks take place on selected Saturdays at 1 p.m. Led by PMA Docents, talks last 45 minutes and replace the scheduled tour that day. Visit the website for a complete listing of Gallery Talks.

PMA Movies are screened Fridays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Visit pmamovies.org for additional special features. Tickets are $7 and available the day of the screening.
