Presencia, the most recent exhibition of work from El Museo's permanent collection, focuses on ideas of presence and its antithesis, absence. This theme is explored through photography, painting, prints, drawings, masks, and other objects. The exhibition investigates the visibility and invisibility of the human form through the presentation of the body in literal and conceptual ways. Featured artists include Luis Mendez, Shaun El C. Leonardo, Oscar Muñoz, Benvenuto Chavajay, Christian Cravo, Roberto Juárez, Fernando Salicrup, and Rafael Tufiño. Presencia complements the current exhibition superreal.

Launching a long-term collaboration with New York's El Museo del Barrio-the leading Latino cultural institution in the U.S. dedicated to Latino, Latin American, and Caribbean art-the Nevada Museum of Art presents a wide-ranging and diverse survey of their stellar art collection. This lively exhibition presents over fifty objects including sculpture, painting, prints, photographs, and mixed media installations addressing themes such as identity politics, colonialism, emotional connections to homeland, and contemporary visual culture. Artworks created by living artists are contextualized with a concise selection of ancient Taίno stone carvings.
Voces y Visiones: Highlights from the Collection of El Museo del Barrio, New York, was jointly organized by the El Museo del Barrio and the Nevada Museum of Art.

Join us for a night of powerfully soulful words. Speak Up! features a dynamic line-up of poetry, performance, and comedy, curated and hosted by guest poets.
Roberto "Simply Rob" Vassilarakis hosts and curates the final Speak Up! of the season. Simply Rob is an activist, youth mentor, role model, story teller, and poet, born and raised in New York to Greek and Salvadorean parents. His life experience has led him to dedicate himself to working with the "at risk" inner city youth of NYC focusing on issues of sex/sexual identity and HIV/AIDS prevention and education. He is a founding member of El Grito De Poetas, the premier all Latino poetry collective in NYC.
Other poets include Christopher Cajigas, Vanessa Hidary and Marilyn Torres.

City Council Meeting is a new, participatory theater piece about democracy, power and empathy, seen through the setting of a staged local government meeting. Using transcripts from government meetings across the country, original text and live video, to enact a civic dialogue, City Council Meeting is created through collaboration with a diverse range of New Yorkers, including students, politicians, activists and artists.

Join El Museo del Barrio for a walking tour of the neighborhood around El Museo. We'll explore El Barrio's vibrant public art, beautiful community gardens, rich cultural organizations, and diverse store fronts that have shaped East Harlem into the unique neighborhood it is today. The tour begins with El Museo del Barrio and its history and will continue on to include the Modesto Flores Community Garden, the Spirit of East Harlem mural, Justo Botanica, Graffiti Hall of Fame, and much more.
Tickets available for $15 online or at El Museo del Barrio. Space is limited; pre-purchase recommended. Tours meet in the lobby at El Museo del Barrio and leave promptly at 11:30am.
PLEASE NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, a guided tour of our galleries will be offered in lieu of the Around the Block from El Museo tour.
