Life Drawing / Painting Classes
Life Drawing Saturday Class
Saturday 22 June
10am - 5pm

Beginners / all levels welcome
This one-day class on drawing the figure from life will show you how to break down such a complex subject into easy to follow steps. Tuition on the course is individual, therefore can be adapted to each students' needs. We will have a seven hours pose with the model, divided in two sessions. In the morning session, the focus will be on capturing proportions, gesture, and body type. In the afternoon, we will progress into understanding values and edges. This is the perfect opportunity to push your drawing standard through careful and sustained observation of the model, great for both beginners and advanced students.

A great one-day class on painting from life for beginners and advanced students alike. Tuition on the course is individual, therefore can be adapted to each students' needs. You will be given an introduction to oil and acrylic painting as well as learn how to approach a life study. The class will consist of one long pose with the model, divided in two sessions. To start, the focus will be on proportions and gesture, effectively learning how to draw with a brush. Next we will progress into understanding painting ‘alla prima’ to capture light and colour and give an accurate visual impression of the subject. By the end of the day you will have learned how to quickly represent the figure in paint through personalized instruction based on individual needs.

Life Drawing & Painting Summer School

Rough course outline:
DAY 1
How to tackle figure drawing.
Blocking in main volumes of the body.
Keeping in check proportions.
Capturing gesture.
DAY 2
Understanding values and how to key a drawing.
Light and shadow masses and the importance of edges.
DAY 3
Colour theory – how it applies to the figure with limited colour palette.
Understanding colour mixing in practice.
Blocking in the main colour masses.
DAY 4
Explain painting mediums and techniques.
Refine the initial block in by adjusting colour mixes and
introducing 'transitions'.
DAY 5
Making form turn by focusing on temperature shifts in skin.
Accents.
Explain glazes and dry brushing.

PLAYBACK SOUTH
Playback South public shows are on the first Wednesday of every month at Candid Cafe.
Starts sharp at 8pm
Tickets for all shows £8 (£5 conc.) on the door.
Playback is the theatre of the unexpected. It takes the audience on a journey through each others' hearts and minds. Surprising stories spring into magical life, words are made flesh and the everyday brings forth epics.

TRAVEL WRITING WORKSHOP
Do you want to be a travel writer?
Four-week travel writing evening class starting at Candid Arts starting on Tuesday June 18th and continuing over the following three Tuesdays. The classes will help participants to write travel feature articles and get them published in newspapers, magazines and websites.
The classes are led by Peter Carty, a very experienced travel writer and editor. Peter contributes to the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph and Condé Nast Traveller and many other publications. He was also the founding editor of Time Out's award-winning travel section and he has broadcast travelogues with the BBC.
The evening class includes unlimited individual feedback and back-up after the last session - a very unusual feature of a short course.
