Rhythmix will host Caminos Flamencos in a showcase featuring a rotating cast of world-class flamenco performers, special guest artists and surprises. Caminos Flamencos, created and directed by Yaelisa, Emmy Award-winning dancer and artistic director, invites the community to celebrate this rich cultural heritage in a peña-style setting, where the passion of Flamenco music and dance fills your soul. Premium wine and beer, and a delicious menu of Spanish tapas will available for purchase. After the performance, students and aficionados are invited to join our fabulous cuadro flamenco onstage for a rousing Fin de Fiesta! All ages welcome.
The mission of Caminos Flamencos is to create and present contemporary, traditional and theatrical dance programs showcasing artists from Spain and the U.S., which reflect the changing face of flamenco in the 21st century. Their programs seek to preserve the legacy of Spain's rich artistic heritage, and bring them to people of all backgrounds, enriching the lives of people with Spanish and Hispanic ancestry, and of the community at large.
Jason McGuire "El Rubio" has become synonymous with flamenco despite his Irish/American heritage. With over 30 years playing experience and concerts from coast to coast he has been for many years the guitarist other professional players come to help learn and hone their craft. As Musical Director of Caminos Flamencos as well as Musical Director for "The New World Flamenco Festival," Jason has shared the stage with some of the top flamenco artists in the world today as well as other legendary performers like Carlos Santana, Savion Glover and Wynton Marsalis to name a few. Along with his his wife Yaelisa, the two have forged the path for authentic as well as experimental flamenco through their groundbreaking productions.
Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) is celebrating its sixth year in the East Bay since opening its doors in 2007 as a community arts center; bringing people of all ages together for a wide range of high quality arts experiences. Only five minutes from downtown Oakland (just off Hwy 880 @ Fruitvale), RCW offers affordable spaces for live performances, exhibitions, arts education and cultural exchange for youth, families and adults. RCW supports local, regional and international artists in the presentation of their work and strives to encourage community awareness through participation in the arts. Plenty of free parking is available.
