KENOSHA,
WI – For the ninth consecutive year, the Wisconsin
Federation of Museums is sponsoring Wisconsin Museums Week, May
12-18, in conjunction with International Museums Day on May 18. This
week long celebration focuses on the work and positive community
impact that museums play in our community.
The
theme for 2013 is “Museums (memory + creativity) = Social Change.”
To commemorate this week, Wisconsin museums will host contests,
workshops, conferences, performances and special tours.
Everyone
is encouraged to visit and support their local museums, including the
Kenosha Public Museum, Civil War Museum, and Dinosaur Discovery
Museum. See www.wisconsinmuseums.org
for a complete listing of events and activities for Wisconsin museums
celebrating Wisconsin Museums Week 2013.
About
International Museums Day
The
International Council of Museums (ICOM) created International Museum
Day in 1977 to encourage awareness about the role of museums in the
development of society. Momentum has been rising unabated ever
since. In 2012, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking
participation with almost 32,000 museums hosting events in more than
129 countries.
About the
Wisconsin Federation of Museums
The
Wisconsin Federation of Museums (WFM) is an independent,
not-for-profit statewide organization dedicated to the promotion of
Wisconsin museums and the museum profession.
Wisconsin
is home to many wonderful museums that offer exhibitions and
activities for both children and adults. A list of WFM members,
comprising many of the finest Wisconsin museums, can be found at
www.wisconsinmuseums.org
The
dual mission of the WFM is to increase and disseminate knowledge
pertinent to the profession and to encourage cooperation among
museums in the state. WFM supports members through educational
workshops, an annual meeting and Wisconsin Museums Week.
