LINCOLN CENTER TO EXHIBIT FOURTEEN LARGE-SCALE SCULPTURES
BY VISUAL ARTIST AARON CURRY
ON JOSIE ROBERTSON PLAZA, OCTOBER, 2013–JANUARY, 2014

Site-specific Installation, Showcased on Newly Transformed Campus,
Reflects Lincoln Center’s Commitment to Free Public Art

May 10, 2013 — Lincoln Center has commissioned fourteen monumental, site-specific sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist Aaron Curry, it was announced today by Reynold Levy, President of Lincoln Center. This major exhibition, Lincoln Center’s second post-redevelopment free public art initiative, will be installed on Josie Robertson Plaza from October, 2013 through January, 2014.

The artist was selected by the Lincoln Center Art Committee, chaired by Peter Kraus, with guidance from a Curatorial Advisory Working Group comprised of Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation; Nicholas Baume, Director, Public Art Fund; Thelma Golden, Director, The Studio Museum in Harlem; Christian Rattemeyer, Associate Curator, The Museum of Modern Art; Scott Rothkopf, Curator, Whitney Museum of American Art; and Philippe Vergne, Director, Dia Art Foundation.

Noted Mr. Levy, “The completion of Lincoln Center’s transformation provides us with an opportunity to animate our outdoor spaces with outstanding works of art available free to Lincoln Center’s thousands of visitors. Aaron Curry’s inspired and playful sculptures will be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages.”

Added Peter Kraus, Chairman, Lincoln Center Art Committee, "Aaron’s installation brings together many aspects appropriate for public art at Lincoln Center—the sculptures are engaging, theatrical, and spirited. They also echo the work of Alexander Calder, whose Le Guichet is located on Lincoln Center’s Hearst Plaza.”

The installation is the artist’s most ambitious project to date. Fourteen outdoor, site-specific sculptures of painted aluminum will be installed on Josie Robertson Plaza. Positioned in orbit around the iconic Revson Fountain, Curry’s boldly-colored structures will transform the space into a sculptural theater-in-the-round and create an immersive environment for viewers visiting the arts complex.
