From The Artist Tracye Wear:
Twenty-five years of making functional and sculptural ceramics provided me with a sense of surface and multi-stepped processes that are evident in my encaustic work. I use encaustic because its seductive, lambent quality plays counter to secretive and illusive imagery. Moving from opacity to translucency, the medium conceals revelations.
In this series, I use images of plants and trees growing outside my studio. Flora dominates the panels, hiding stories and poems and exploring what lies below the surface, what is behind walls, what is out of site hidden in our lives and minds and in our immediate surroundings. You can see a word or phrase here and there, but never the complete story. to view more new works from Tracye Wear ________________________________________ Tuyet Ong-Barr
this exhibition on view May 1 - through May 25, 2013
From the artist Tuyet Ong-Barr:
"bits of reality can stimulate an idea for a composition, whether it's a quality in the sunlight of the day or bits of multi colored paint scraped from my pallet, each painting speaks with clarity. I create abstract compositions with dynamic movement; many layers of gestures create a network of lines traveling through an airy space. At times the numerous gestures seem closer to a natural form like the pattern of tree bark or lines describing the movement on the surface of water. My experiments with texture and layering often create a sense of illusionary space, however sometimes the thickness of the paint sits on the surface of the painting, and wraps around the edges, insisting on the object of the canvas itself."
