Jazz Forum Arts announces its 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition Sat., June 15 from 1-5pm at the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY

Jazz Forum Arts (JFA), the top presenter of jazz artists in Westchester County, is holding its 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition on Saturday, June 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Hudson River Museum (511 Warburton Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10701). JFA’s mission is to “present top-quality arts events to the public at little or no cost, while enhancing the appreciation of Jazz, America’s pre-eminent indigenous musical art form.” JFA’s 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition will embrace this mission by working to identify budding vocal jazz talent in Westchester County and giving them an opportunity to showcase their artistry during JFA’s 2013 free Summer Concert Series.

“JFA and its Board are truly excited to be continuing our vocal jazz competition for Westchester County,” said Mark Morganelli, Founder and Executive Director for JFA. “We had a great response last year and many have already inquired about this year’s audition date. One of last year’s rising stars from our competition, Carly Rose Sonenclar, was a finalist on Fox’s X-Factor and another one of our winners, Alexis Cole (pictured), was a finalist in last year’s Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.”

JFA’s 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition will be auditioning jazz vocalists, from soloists and duos to a cappella groups. Auditioning jazz artists will be judged on how well they sing in the jazz style (i.e. phrasing, musicality, scatting, performance and tone). The 2013 judges for JFA’s 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition are Grammy Award-nominated vocalist and respected jazz educator Janet Lawson;veteran jazz drummer and vocalist, Tony Jefferson; one of the 2012 JFA Vocal Jazz Competition Winners, Alexis Cole and JFA Board Member and accomplished jazz vocalist, Tyrha M. Lindsey. Pianist, Jeff Pittson, will accompany the vocal participants.

JFA’s 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition is free to the public. However, the Hudson River Museum will also allow persons auditioning to also visit the museum. After the audition, persons can simply go to the front desk in order to pay the admission fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children under 16 years old.

All interested vocalists who want to participate in JFA’s 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Competition must download an audition form at www.jazzforumarts.org and bring it with them to the audition on June 15. (Available Soon)

As Spyro Gyra contemplates upcoming milestones
to its storied career, it’s tempting to fall back on the

to describe it. During that time, they have performed
over five thousand shows, released twenty-nine albums
(not counting "Best Of…" compilations) selling over
ten million albums while also achieving one platinum
and two gold albums. What's more, 2012 marked
thirty-five years since their first eponymous album release.
Next year, 2014, , signifies 40 years as a band.

They show little sign of wanting to slow down either,

gaining Grammy© nominations for each of their last four albums.
