First Friday hours, fine craft on the riverfront, and celebrate dad

Celebrate your dad with a gift as unique as he is. View this email in your browser

Celebrate Your Dad!

Celebrate your dad with a gift as unique as he is.  Did he share his love of travel with you?  Maybe he'd like one of our leather shaving bags for his next journey.  Did he challenge you to express yourself?  Help him take his creativity to the next level with the gift of a woodturning or paper clay workshop.  Did you inherit his love of history?  Bring him to our fraktur workshop!

You'll find our store and classrooms at 335 N. Queen St. Lancaster, at the Center of American Craft.  Open Monday-Saturday 10 am - 5 pm and Sundays 12 - 4 pm.

Fair on the Riverfront

When you're looking to escape the heat this summer, forget the mall!  Reach for what's unique at our largest Fine Craft Fair of the year.

July 27 & 28, the Chase Center on the Riverfront will fill with thousands of designs from independent craftsmen.  Works for sale ranges from furniture to clothing, jewelry to sculpture, all the way from functional to fine art.

Preview the show, or visit our website for directions, tickets, and parking info!

Paper, Outside the Box

When you think of paper, do you think of boring white office paper?  Or your childhood experiments with making paper in a blender?  Allow us to help you master some strange and wonderful paper techniques that will change the way you see those ubiquitous white sheets.

Paper Filigree, June 8, will teach you the centuries-old curlicues of quilling.

Traditional Watercolor Marbling (photo above), June 8, will prove that sometimes, splashing your paper with water just makes it  awesome.

Ready to Thread?, June 15  This embroidery class covers basic stitches as well as how to sew on nontraditional materials like paper!

Collage & Encaustic, June 22, embeds your paper scraps into wax, transforming them into glowing, luscious pieces of art.

And last but not least, Explore Paper Clay (right image), June 22 & 23, with well-known ceramic artist Jerry Bennett. Mixing paper and clay takes advantage of the properties of both, and creates light and airy sculptures as well as durable functional pieces.

Work Days in May

You would hardly recognize the restaurant's old kitchen.  The grease trap is gone.  So is the restaurant ventilation hood.  Some of the walls are clean and white, and the floor in the smaller room is waiting to be sealed and leveled as we speak.

Of course, some of the walls still need to be patched, the stairways need a bright coat of paint, and the larger classrooms upstairs are in need of a little loving care (sawdust and construction materials end up everywhere!).

In the last year alone, more than 9,000 visitors, patrons, and students have been to your Center of American Craft and learned more about creativity, craftsmanship, and your Guild.  Help make all the space here awesome for the next  9,000 visitors!

There are still a few Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays left in May, and they're all work days at the Center of American Craft.  Call us at 717-431-8706 with questions or to let us know you're coming!
