Join us to explore the craft of representational figure drawing from the life model. 

 

Topics to be covered include: capturing character and likeness, proportion and gesture, developing a drawing from the block-in to the modeling of form, the anatomy of light and shadow, the value progressions, and artist's materials. 

 

 
The Fundamentals of Drawing

Learn the specifics of relational drawing. 

 

Focusing on the issues of scale, form, and space, students of all levels will draw from the model and the landscapes of Central Park, with an attention to realizing the dynamic volumes of the subject. 

 

Compositional techniques of major artists,

from Giotto to Matisse, will be explored through daily exercises.

The Figure in Motion

Learning to render the gesture of a human being is the essence of capturing the moment. Students will discover tools and techniques to better understand the figure in its simple, gestural state. 

 

Short, timed poses will allow participants to quickly turn the figure within space and present the human form in more dramatic and challenging poses.
