EXHIBITION NOTICE TO PRESS

Delicious Monsters: Plants of the imagination
Wedneday 26 -  Sunday 30 June 2013
11am – 5pm
FREE

Pupils at four primary schools have been busy helping artists create new works of art for a unique exhibition inspired by Battersea Park.

Four floors of the park’s Pump House Gallery will be filled with plant pots containing a range of artwork such as painting, sculpture, photography and word art as part of the Delicious Monsters: Plants of the Imagination exhibition.

Since April, pupils from Westbridge, St George’s, Christ Church CE and Falconbrook primary schools in Battersea have been working with four artists to cover each floor in the gallery with individual environments inspired by the borough park.

The finished exhibition will be unveiled on June 26 and run until June 30. A panel of judges will then be asked to choose five specific art works to receive a special prize.

In addition, one school will be selected to receive an overall prize for the most impressive contribution.

All of the winners will be announced on Saturday, June 29, during a free family event at the gallery, which will feature art workshops, food and activities for all ages.

Wandsworth’s culture spokesman, Councillor Jonathan Cook, said: “This exhibition has provided a wonderful opportunity for local children to explore their creative sides in new ways.

“I hope they all enjoy the experience of having their work on display for all to see – and I hope many people grab the chance to see their different creations.”

The artistic project is the result of joint working between local organisations, including the Friends of Battersea Park, Thomas’s School Foundation, the Royal College of Art, the Pump House Gallery, and the schools themselves.

The gallery, which is owned and operated by Wandsworth Borough Council, is open from 11am to 5pm on Wednesday to Sunday. Entry is free.
