Heralded for his critical analysis of masculine iconography, the artist has gravitated towards maverick characters such as athletes, rock stars, race car drivers, and ranchers. Similarly, McKenzie's work explores the tensions and stereotypes associated with identity, but through heavy oils, playful craft materials, and found frames. Hinging primarily on the vernacular of gender, both artists' work is an expression of developmental process in both art and selfhood. In conjunction with Sans35, the gallery produced a video interview featuring both artists, which can be viewed on Vimeo.
