We are thrilled to kick off this summer with Stealing Base: Cuba at Bat,
The 8th Floor's latest contemporary Cuban exhibition. In the spirit of
summer baseball, Stealing Base explores the sport's the visual language
through the varied perspectives of Cuban-born artists, living both on the
island and in the US. The work of Arles del Río, Reynerio Tamayo, Harold
Vázquez Ley, and Yunier Figueroa will be featured in our space for the
first time. Alejandro Aguilera will create a site-specific installation,
Bill and the Baseball Game, continuing his series of homages to the
self-taught artist, Bill Traylor.

Havana-based curator Orlando Hernández contributed an essay for the
exhibition, as part of our ongoing collaboration. In his words:

"Without any doubt, baseball is a great generator of implications,
meanings, and can be (and should be) used as a grand metaphor to express
or to understand not only art, but the reality in which we live."
I hope that you will consider listing The 8th Floor and our public open
hours in Absolute Arts and will join us June 6th, from 6-8 pm, to
celebrate the opening of the show. Several artists featured in the
