Alexander Storey Gordon: Headless

Alexander Storey Gordon

Headless
1 June - 19 July

Headless is an HD film produced as part of Prologue. The film abstractly explores processes of reflection and introspection through a succession of allegorical images of death, prophesy, ritual and capital. Making illusion to the humanist imagery of Caravaggio's self portraits and the painting style of Tenebrism that created the image via a dramatic illumination of the subject, the work plays with the conventions of filmic narrative, presenting a film that never comes to rest on any one set of meaning.

Noise is all signals on and off. If “silence is assent,” then noise testifies to that which is deemed unwanted, exceeding the normative limits and expectations of behaviour, social interaction and cultural production by disrupting conventional structures – rendering its negative character as something excessive, destructive, with a viral and contingent potency. Noise is the system-killer that provokes a 'pestilential creativity.' Noise is manifest in diverse practices, in their persistent negativity, in their formal recalcitrance, in their cosmological excess, in their denial of service.

Tim Sandys

Sandys

Hardtack
1 June - 19 July

Tim Sandys' new work expands on themes around the 'nuclear experience' and the transition from fossil fuels to nuclear fission and fusion events. Using novel materials, his work is an intuitive and structural expression of the industrial materiality of energy production and transmission. Whether referencing centrifuges, fuel-rods, reactor cores or leaking coolant, wood, iron, petroleum jelly and water are among the materials allowed to dictate the finish of this work, without sentimentality or proselytising.
