Ladies of Longford to open

30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto concert series

June 9 in Dublin’s Scioto Park

DUBLIN, Ohio— (May 29, 2013) Ladies of Longford will open the 30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto summer concert series on June 9 with an eclectic blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic music. The popular outdoor concerts feature an array of central Ohio and regional musicians onstage in the outdoor amphitheatre at Scioto Park, 7377 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, just north of the Dublin Arts Council facility and south of Hard Rd. The weekly concerts take place on eight consecutive Sunday evenings, June 9 through July 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. each week. The concerts are free of charge and donations are graciously accepted.

Ladies of Longford has been performing together for 10 years. The all-female central Ohio group includes bandleader Hilda Doyle on vocals and guitar, joined by family members Stephanie Doyle (vocals/bass) and Heather Doyle Fraser (vocals/djembe). The five-member band is completed by Liz Blickenstaff on fiddle and Molly Pauken on percussion/drums. Inspired by the Doyle family’s heritage in County Longford, Ireland, Ladies of Longford performs regularly at regional venues and festivals, including the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival.

Concert guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the amphitheatre. Jeni’s Ice Creams and food carts from The Food Fort will be on hand each week with proceeds benefiting Dublin Arts Council.

In addition to Ladies of Longford, the 30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto concert series entertainment includes:

June 16: Eric Dove & Green Light Go (classic rock / 80s / country)

June 23: Hadden Sayers Band (American blues)

         June 30: Yumbambe (Latin jazz)

July 7: Swing’s the Thing (big band/swing)

July 14: The Reaganomics (80s wave, rock and pop)

July 21: The Floorwalkers (pop / soul / indie rock)

July 28: British Invasion (British pop/rock)

If weather conditions appear unfavorable, patrons may call the DAC voice mail at 614.889.7444, visit DAC’s website (www.dublinarts.org), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DublinArtsCouncil) or follow Twitter updates (@DublinArts) for information regarding concert delays or cancellations.

The concert series and the location are of historical significance to Dublin Arts Council. DAC was formed after an ad hoc committee brought the Columbus Symphony Orchestra to the dedication of Scioto Park in 1983. The park is also home to Leatherlips, the first public artwork of DAC’s Dublin Art in Public Places program. The 12-foot high native limestone sculpture of the Wyandot Indian Chief has overlooked the park’s amphitheatre since 1990.

The 30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto summer concert series is provided as a free gift to the community through the corporate support of Cardinal Health, Fifth Third Bank, Holiday Inn Express Columbus-Dublin, Honda Marysville, IGS Energy, Standley Law Group, State Farm and Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur, LLP. Media partners are CW Columbus and WCBE Radio. The event is further supported by in-kind contributions of services from City of Dublin.

DAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supported in part by an annual endowment from the City of Dublin’s hotel/motel tax and the Ohio Arts Council, which helps fund Dublin Arts Council and its programs with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DAC is further supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, fundraising events, membership, classes, gallery and gift shop sales and in-kind contributions. DAC engages the community, cultivates creativity and fosters life-long learning through the arts.
