Be one of the first to marvel at the new outdoor sculpture Anticipator. Combining a fallen tree originally planted by Miss Florence, corten steel, lights, and mist, this work of art is sure to provide a memorable experience. Read more about the sculpture...

Related hands-on crafts from 11am-4pm.

At 2pm join dancer L'Ana Burton for a self-expressive dance class. Inspired by the alphabet, Burton leads families about the grounds to discover letters and shapes in nature to be used in a final dance. The A is for Anticipator!

Enjoy stunning flower arrangements interpreting works of art in the   exhibition. Playing off colors, lines, shapes, and subject matter, each display reflects its inspiration in masterful ways. Included with Museum admission.

Gardens Day

Gardens at the Florence Grisowld Museum
Sunday, June 23

Free access to gardens
Enjoy the Museum's grounds on this special state-wide celebration of historic gardens. See cthistoricgardens.org for information on all 14 garden sites.

At the Florence Griswold Museum, outdoor activities are free from 1-5pm. Visitors are invited to stroll through "Miss Florence's" historic gardens and watch members of the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists as they work on paintings featuring models posed in the gardens and along the river. Painting materials will be supplied so that visitors can try their hand at creating their own masterpieces. Families can go on the new garden scavenger hunt. Museum admission applies to House and galleries.

Visitors can enjoy a lovely lunch at Café Flo, located on the veranda overlooking the Lieutenant River. Dine with table service on the veranda or picnic on the lawn. The Café's delicious and inventive dishes are prepared by Gourmet Galley
using only the freshest ingredients available from local farmers and purveyors.

Café Flo now offers dinner once a month...Partake is a new program that combines dinner and dialogue inspired by the current exhibition. The next one is Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30pm.

Join the Museum's Garden Gang for a sale of beautiful plants and garden specimens, featuring heirloom perennials, roses, herbs, and succulents. Price range from $5 to $50. Many are similar to those in Miss Florence's garden. Proceeds benefit the Museum's garden projects.

Join Garden Historian Susan Tamulevich as she tells the story of the evolution of the common flower pot based on her collection of North American examples. What began as a collaboration with Guy Wolff and Jim Keeling of the Whichford Pottery has since grown into a remarkable collection of several hundred vernacular flowerpots, from traditional horticulture ware to contemporary biodegradables.
Ted and Larry's Excellent Arborists' Adventure: The Tree Hugger's Tour

Join Arborist Larry Dvorsky and Facilities Manager Ted Gaffney for a walking tour of the trees at the Museum. This dynamic duo introduces you to several of the Museum's top specimen trees - such as the large Black Walnut, our lovely Pagoda, the unique White Oak (scion of the Charter Oak), our rare American Elm, and the European Cut-Leaf Beech - and explains their ideal care and conditions.
