Peekskill Open Studios weekend is here! 

Come by the HVCCA for pay-what-you-wish admission, then explore the exhibitions and artist studios around town.  Our friends at EMBARK|Peekskill have a full schedule of performances for both Saturday and Sunday with something to please everyone:  dance, comedy, music, poetry and performance art.

Take advantage of the great weather and pick up a PEEKSKILL PROJECT V Outdoor Sculpture Map at HVCCA and visit the works throughout Peekskill.

It's also the last weekend to see Itziar Barrio's amazing video "WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL" in our video room-- don't miss it!

Pay-what-you-wish admission to HVCCA
all weekend!

Peekskill is exploding with art and talent this weekend! Visit HVCCA, then travel around town to the various pop-up galleries, literary art and performances and artist studiosMaps and brochures for visitors are available from 12-5pm at the Jan Peek Gazebo, located at the corner of Central Ave. and N. Division St. in Downtown Peekskill.

Watch a promo video where Maureen Winzig, President of the Peekskill Arts Alliance, discusses this year's event with Jackie Suarez on Living Arts.

Circumactio in Latin is the act of making something symmetrical. Juxtaposing two seemingly similar objects, or subjects, Lavado and Rojas explore what makes us equal, or what makes us unequal. The drawings, photographs and video works in Circumactio endeavor to highlight the symmetry inherent in life; birth and rebirth; light day and dark night. 

HVCCA is delighted to partner with the Field Library for this PEEKSKILL PROJECT V Exhibition, on view through July 27th.  Event is FREE and open to the public.

'Curtain Call'

Reception: 4-6pm

This group exhibition activates a formerly vacant factory space near the Peekskill waterfront, and focuses on performance and interactive art, including works by Z Behl, Andrea Bianconi, Pepe Coronado, Nestor Madalengoitia, and Chad Stayrook, among others. 

The exhibition will be open from 2-6pm on June 9th, during which time members of the public can interact with Marcy B. Freedman during a performance entitled “Once Upon a Time is Now.”   A tour of the outdoor sculptures at Bohlman Park will depart at 3pm.

'So You Want to Paint a Landscape?'

Create your very own landscape painting by the Riverfront! PPV Artist Lisa Lebofsky brings a unique sense of space to the landscapes she creates. 
 
Learn about Lisa’s experiences capturing landscapes all over the world, then create a Plein Air painting at the breathtaking Peekskill waterfront—take your easel to a spot that inspires you!
 
$5 Materials Fee per student
Open to all ages, under 8 must be accompanied by adult.

HVCCA is delighted to take part in this state-wide initiative, which encourages museum goers to discover wonderful museums and the one-of-a-kind personal experiences they offer visitors every day. From museum mile along the upper stretch of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, to the intimate setting of the Hyde Collection upstate in Glens Falls, enjoy up-close-and-personal encounters with world-class art and other cultural treasures.

Practice the ancient art of yoga amongst the contemporary art in our galleries with these hour-long express classes.  All levels, including beginners, are welcome to attend. $15 drop-in per class.

Maria Driscoll McMahon: "Grief"

This exhibition in our mezzanine gallery includes works by artists who investigate through metaphor, separation, assimilation or discovery, different ideas about the interaction between humans and this specific engaging environment, challenging the viewer to explore their own body in reference to the natural world.

Kathleen GiljeRevised and Restored: The Art of Kathleen Gilje

Through September 8th, 2013

This overview of works by Kathleen Gilje, who also happens to be a PEEKSKILL PROJECT V artist, satirically pointed and technically adroit reincarnations of famous Old Master and nineteenth-century paintings. Through these works she comments on social, political and art historical issues of our day, and often recasts leading lights of the world of art scholarship, criticism and collecting.

Banners Across ArtsWestchester by Susan CoxFocusing on one-square block at the epicenter of the city’s business, residential, and leisure districts, 26 artists present imaginative concepts for activating downtown White Plains. Their artistic visions for the city’s most visited and trafficked corridor will give residents a sense of how public art can animate, distinguish, and enliven their streetscape.
