The first "Asia After Dark" of 2013 kicks off with a night aboard the Korean pop-culture soul train. On Sat., June 8, 7-11 p.m., the Freer Gallery of Art transforms into a Korean contemporary cultural hub showcasing a fusion of Korean pop music, fashion, art, food, and digital experimentation.
Special guests include Korea's performance group Action Drawing HERO and Washington, D.C.-based DJ Asu Rock, who is noted for bringing K-pop music to the U.S. Action Drawing HERO will perform a live-art performance piece that synthesizes K-pop beats with synchronized dance, mime and comedy.
In addition to hosting live performances, the evening will provide opportunities for guests to participate in an variety of Korean pop culture-inspired activities including: K-bling jewelry and accessory-making; a dress-up photo studio with Korean costumes and props; and an interactive dance arcade game: "Pump it Up: Fiesta 2." They can also learn more about the artwork on view through a curator-led tour, an iPad experimentation station unveiling the new "Collecting Korea" iPad app; and interactive Instagram projections.
"Asia After Dark: Korea Seoul Train" is presented in association with the Korean Cultural Center, Washington, D.C. Additional support is provided by the Korean Tourism Organization.
