UPCOMING PROJECT:
KATHRIN BÖHM : I AM SHOP â COSTUMES FOR SELLING THINGS AND GIVING THEM AWAY
20â22 June, opening hours: ThursâSat, 12â6pm
Preview and discussion event: Wednesday 19 June, 6.30â8.30pm
In autumn 2012 The Showroom invited Kathrin Böhm to develop a project within the Communal Knowledge programme.
I am a shop began a new five-month collaboration with PIP. The work developed during the project will be presented in a four day programme at The Showroom. Events will include the launch of a printed sketchbook compiling ideas and outcomes from the workshops, the testing of a new mobile dispenser on Church Street Market, and an evening discussion with invited speakers to address the possibility of models of trading and shops within contemporary art practice.
The production and distribution of things as a social, cultural and public realm often begins and informs Böhm's practice. The starting point with PIP was the idea of a customised and wearable trading outfit, as a space, image and interface, from where you can trade in your own way
