EXCURSUS IV: PRIMARY INFORMATION
COFFEE & CONVERSATION
Saturday, June 8, 2pm
Enjoy a cup of complimentary La Colombe coffee and join PennDesign MFA student Dan O'Neill for
an intimate conversation about questions of appropriation, copyright, republication, and documentation,
prompted by the ICA exhibition Excursus IV: Primary Information, currently on view.
MUSIC LESSONS
Wednesday, June 12, 6:30pm
After WWII children's music education became a site of aesthetic experimentation, and its traces
in videos and records continue to inspire today's musicians. Jesse Pires, Program Curator at
International House, and Ben Graves of Toys & Techniques will discuss why making bird sounds,
dancing under huge parachutes, and pretending to be a tree are all good things.
VIDEO ART
Saturday, June 15, 2pm
What was video art? Rebecca Cleman, Distribution Director at EAI, poses
this question in light of technological and cultural changes in the
decades since ICA's 1975 Video Art exhibition, and David Antin's influential catalog
essay about the then nascent medium. Participate in this final Excursus discussion,
along with a group of artists, curators, and scholars, to help us consider the legacy
of video art.
