CURRENT EXHIBITION & PUBLIC PROGRAMS
Empujando Tinta
Tupac Amaru: Ten Years of Collaborative Activism

On Saturday, June 15, Galería invites the public to participate in a free workshop led by Empujando Tinta artist Favianna Rodriguez. The Migration is Beautiful: The Butterfly Art Workshop is a hands-on activity that will result in the making of a plethora of butterflies that will descend on Burning Man's Playa this summer!  You will also have the opportunity to hear first-hand from Rodriguez how the butterfly has become a symbol for migrant rights. The workshop is free and open to all ages, but only 40 spaces are available. RSVP is required for admission; to reserve your spot, please send an email to  julio@culturestrike.net

Empujando Tinta celebrates 10 years of works by Taller Tupac Amaru (the Taller), a collective art studio founded in 2003 by Bay Area artists Favianna Rodriguez and Jesus Barraza, and joined by Melanie Cervantes in 2007. Over 150 works from the Taller are now on view covering immigration, socioeconomics, political justice, and people’s stories of resistance and resilience from around the globe. During the past decade, the Taller has dedicated itself to revitalizing the screen printing medium through the production of political posters and fine art prints, which have received national and global acclaim. All three artists work with service and advocacy organizations, using art to mobilize around social justice issues and also with individual artists on commissions or collaborations.

UPCOMING PROGRAMMING
Lunada Literary Lounge Spring Season Closer
Sunday, June 23
7:30pm  |  $5 admission

The Lunada spring season cycles into the summer solstice this month, and the season closer features the special reunion of Los Delicados, a Latino spoken word performance troupe. In a rare appearance of all three performers, los poetas del sol melt poetry, dance, comedy, and theater into a "Word Descarga" not to be missed.

Los Delicados were founded in 1996 by writers Norman Zelaya, Darren J. de Leon, and Paul Flores in San Francisco's Mission District. The writers come from three different California experiences – Nicoya in San Francisco, Xicano in San Bernardino, and Cuban/Mexican in the borderlands of San Diego – and took the national spoken word scene by storm becoming the leading Latino spoken word troupe. In 2001, they released Word Descarga on Calaca Press, and their play Guayaberas By The Pound has been taught on college campuses throughout the country.

Held every month, on the night of the full moon, the Lunada Literary Lounge series is a community gathering where stories, food, songs, and spirit are shared. Located in the heart of the Mission District at Galería de la Raza, each Lunada features community poets, local legends, visiting mystics, and other mero meros of the stage.

Sign-ups at 7:15pm; first timers always welcome.
