PROGRAM FOR YOUNG CREATIVES CONTINUES THIS SUMMER AT MARYLAND
ART PLACE
In March 2013, Maryland Art Place launched a new speakers
series program for young artists in Baltimore. THIRTY: 30 Creative Minds Under
30 is a series of monthly talks featuring thirty emerging artists under the age
of thirty. All of the participants use a diverse range of creative practices,
including performance, community art, design, film, photography, sculpture and
technology. Every month 3 artists convene to present their perspectives on
current cultural trends and how that plays into their practice, use of media
and outcomes.
MAP invites established artists and arts professionals to
moderate each THIRTY event. Their role is to provide feedback for the
participating artists and lead a Q&A season after each presentation. Guests
David Page and Robert Salazar will moderate the June 12 event. David Page is a
professional artist and professor at American University and the Corcoran
College of Art and Design in DC. He is also a former member of MAP’s Program
Advisory Committee (PAC). Robert Salazar is faculty at Maryland Institute
College of Art in the painting and foundation department.
On July 17 MAP welcomes PAC co-chair Laure Drogoul and Bonnie
Jones to moderate the THIRTY event. Laure Drogoul is an interdisciplinary
artist works in a wide range of media including large-scale public projects..
Laure also directs The 14Karat Cabaret, a performance program of MAP that she
founded in 1989. Bonnie Jones is a writer, improvising musician, and performer
working primarily with electronic music and text. She is also a former member
of the PAC and the Co-Founder of Techne, a non-profit arts organization
introducing young women to electronic music, technology, and improvisation.
Upcoming talks will take place in the MAP galleries located
at 8 Market Place, Suite 100, Baltimore, MD.
All THIRTY sessions will begin at 6pm on the following

Jim Leach
Jim Leach is a multidisciplinary artist originally from
Cleveland, Ohio. In his practice he aims to include only the necessary
elements, and these elements come from everyday life. By investigating his work
one might be compelled to examine their beliefs, judgments and view of the
world.
Kyle Bauer
Kyle is a native of Southern Illinois. He graduated in 2007
with a BFA in Sculpture from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and in
2011 with an MFA in Ceramics from Louisiana State University. Kyle’s work is an
exploration of both traditional and alternative ceramic processes that are
realized within the context of mixed media sculpture. In August of 2011, Kyle
moved to Baltimore to become an Artist in Residence at Baltimore Clayworks. He
currently teaches classes covering a range of ceramic practices, while
maintaining his studio practice and an active national exhibition record.
Michelle Dickson
Michelle Dickson was born and raised in Jacksonville, Fl.
She received a BFA in drawing from the University of Florida in 2008 and an MFA
in studio art from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2011. She
currently lives and works in Baltimore, MD where she is a resident artist at
School 33, a nonprofit arts organization in Baltimore.
TT The Artist
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tedra Wilson
discovered her fearless approach to performance as a high school student. She
is a college-graduate from The Maryland Institute College Of Art (MICA) with a
bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a concentration in video. Tedra is now known
as "TT The Artist and feels Baltimore has enabled her to test the waters
and create a name for herself within the local indie-music scene.
Monica Lopez-Gonzalez
Monica Lopez-Gonzalez is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow
in the Department of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins
School of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Johns
Hopkins University in 2010. Her current research focuses on the neural
correlates of artistic creativity, with an emphasis on musical production. She is a musician, having studied
piano at the Peabody Conservatory and a photographer and filmmaker, having
earned a Certificate of Art in Photography at the Maryland Institute College of
Art (MICA) in 2009. She is also an adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins
University, Peabody Conservatory, and Maryland Institute College of Art.
Aran Keating
Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) produces original, live
rock operas in Baltimore. Aran Keating is Director, writer and collaborator for
BROS. He has also worked on such projects as the hip-hop duo AK Slaughter, the
Motown band The Motorettes, and running a DJ business.
Jen Liu
Jen Liu is an artist who enjoys working in many different
mediums that includes and combines textile, video and electronics. In her
work, she is interested in the relationships that humans have with other humans
and non-human objects. Since graduating from MICA with a degree in Fiber
in 2012, Jen Liu has been pursuing her interest in arts, technology and
education. She currently works for a non-profit that makes arts
programming available at schools across Maryland and teaches workshops on
puppetry, physical computing and engineering to kids in the Baltimore/DC area.
Hannah Brancato
Hannah Brancato is a curator and an artist. She received an
MFA in Community Art from MICA in 2011. Brancato is currently organizing a
series of actions and events to fight the culture of rape; working with the activist
collective Greenpants to create large scale projected videos about hidden
histories and injustices; coordinating a women's leadership project, Mother
Made Baltimore; and teaching part time at the Maryland Institute College of
Art.
Hoesy Corona
Hoesy Corona is a multidisciplinary Artist living and
working in Baltimore MD. He investigates the realms of performance, painting, installation
and fibers. Having emigrated from rural Mexico at the age of six, he explores
issues of alienation, separation and discrimination.
