Galería de la Raza is a proud sponsor with the
Queer Cultural Center and its National Queer Arts Festival to present Still Here on June 12 & 13 at The Garage. Still Here was conceptalized and orchestrated by Galería ReGen grant recipients Cristina Mitra and Natalia Vigil.
About Still Here: What does it mean to grow up in San Francisco, to come out, to negotiate home, self, identity, family, loss, and love in a city widely perceived as a gay mecca? Still Here presents new work by artists raised in San Francisco during the 80s, 90s, and present that delves into these never-explored questions.
With the AIDS crisis in the backdrop of their childhoods, they came of age during a period of both great visibility and simultaneous loss that shape their queer community. With varied backgrounds in dance, writing, performance, and video, Still Here reveals hidden, but crucial voices. Audiences are invited to join the crew as performers re-imagine, re-invent, and re-examine San Francisco’s Queer history and the Queer/LGBTQI narrative around AIDS.
8pm @ The Garage, San Francisco
Wednesday, June 12 & Thursday, June 13
