‘So You Want to Paint a Landscape?’

Workshop with Artist Lisa Lebofsky

Sunday, June 16th,  2PM
@ Riverfront Green Gazebo, Peekskill, NY

Lisa LebofskyLisa Lebofsky, with her paintings on aluminum, brings a unique sense of space and an exploration of dark and light to the moody landscapes she creates.  Her work explores the potency of the mind when it engages with nature.  The natural world functions as a launch point for liberating the mind from restrictions imposed by everyday life.

“Painting en plein air offers many challenges. Aside from exposure to the elements, the light is constantly changing due to passing clouds, or the passage of time. Consequently, one is painting a living and moving subject. It forces quick thinking, invention, and flexibility. Having that in-person moment with the subject matter allows me to paint a sensation of place, rather than just its replication.”     â€“Lisa Lebofsky

Learn about Lisa’s experiences capturing landscapes all over the world, then create a Plein Air painting at the breathtaking Peekskill waterfront—take your easel to a spot that inspires you!

   EXCITING EXHIBITIONS IN OUR AREA

PEEKSKILL PROJECT V @ THE FIELD LIBRARY:

Circumactio:
Works by Virginia Lavado and Camilo Rojas

June 15 – July 27, 2013

Opening Reception:
Saturday, June 15, 11-2pm

Camilo RojasHVCCA is delighted to partner with the Field Library Gallery for this two-person exhibition featuring drawings, photographs and videos by Virginia Lavado and Camilo Rojas.  Rojas and Lavado are an artistic couple who occasionally work on projects together, and while their interests definitely inform each other, each maintains his and her own separate artistic practices.

‘Circumactio’ in Latin means making something symmetrical. Juxtaposing two seemingly similar objects, or subjects, Lavado and Rojas explore what makes us equal, or what makes us unequal. The artworks in ‘Circumactio’ endeavor to highlight the symmetry inherent in life; birth and rebirth; light day and dark night. Subjects are put into spaces that no longer welcome a happy time, spaces that perhaps once molded our memories; such as an old school, an abandoned hospital where some of our loved ones were born, and where some have died.

Virginia LavadoWhat are those people doing in these dilapidated places, abandoned by society and filled with faint reminiscences? Virginia’s drawings recount mythological visual tales, while at the core of Camilo’s photographs, videos, and installations is an outsider’s perception. Viewers will find dark humor, folktales, and dreams within Lavado’s and Rojas’ fierce voyage through the subject of symmetry in ‘Circumactio.’

The Field Library is located at 4 Nelson Avenue.  Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursdays, 9am- 9pm; Wednesday, 11am-9pm; Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday, 10am-2pm; Closed Sunday.

Virginia Lavado and Camilo Rojas’s work is also currently on view at the HVCCA in the PEEKSKILL PROJECT V group exhibition, “Body As Landscape,” on view through July 28th.
