WHAT THEY SAY
“It’s something of a surprise how much American soul runs through her debut album, “Places.” From the sounds of it, Doillon, already a popular model and actress in France, could be on the same path.”
THE NEW YORK TIMES
“She’s set to arrive Stateside with an American release that’s well worth the download”
“Lou Doillon seems to be in a perpetual state of creativity.”
"I.C.U. is a wonderfully husky, post-Rolling-Stones-Marian ne-Faithfull, four-song record. You wonder why she waited so long to release it"
“I might have another reason to love her, and it has to do with Doillon’s music: The daughter of Jane Birkin put out a debut album, called Places, last fall and it’s finally getting released stateside this June”
“Doillon has real presence. In a deep American drawl that brings to mind Bob Dylan via Patti Smith, she sings haunting tales of longing for an ex-lover, of jealousy and regret – the heartbreak in the lyrics offset by the husky resonance of her voice.”
“She delivers gently rolling, midtempo songs in a hushed, often half-spoken voice and though sung in English they're relayed with the mild detachment and bittersweetness of the chanson tradition.”
“Here's the debut video for "I.C.U." by Lou Doillon, the impossibly beautiful and impeccably stylish daughter of Jane Birkin and half-sister of musician Charlotte Gainsbourg. We think we've found our new favorite summertime ballad.”
“After years of feeling like an outsider, Doillon, who has now finally won over the hearts of the French people, is basking in her own success.”
ABOUT LOU DOILLON
Coming off her acclaimed European debut, Lou Doillon will release her full-length debut album Places in the US on June 18th, 2013 on Verve Records. The album was originally released via Universal France on September 3rd, 2012 and quickly achieved critical praise across Europe. The chanteuse craft an array of beautiful, sweeping songs with producer Zdar (Phoenix, The Rapture, Beastie Boys).
As the daughter of international icon Jane Birkin and Jacques Doillon, and with Serge Gainsbourg as her step-father, it goes without saying that Lou was born into a creative environment. Lou always kept music as a hobby, and even wrote many songs in English, which she refers to as her “private language.” She finally revealed her musical talents in the spring of 2012 with the European release of the first track on the album, “ICU.” Its haunting vocals, compelling melody and twilight ambience held the immediate promise of a bright future.
