ART HEADLINES: June 19
Galleries, museums + more in Chicago June 19 - July 10, 2013
The official first day of summer is this Friday, June 21.  We're ready for it!  We've highlighted some upcoming events, including several that take place outdoors - a few suggestions to start the summer off right.

The Bridgeport Art Center invites you to an opening reception on Friday for two new shows and their Third Fridays Open Studios.  The Randolph Street Market returns during the last weekend in June with lots of one-of-a-kind finds.

CGN's Calendar of Events and Openings pages have a range of events listed that take place now through August.  The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park makes for a great day trip; other upcoming events include Lakeside Legacy Art Park's Lakeside Fest + a special one-night event at the Field Museum featuring artist Marco Nereo Rotelli.

Syzygy Exhibition (June 21 - July 19):

University of Chicago 2013 MFA graduates are featured in this exhibition that showcases the results of a rigorous interdisciplinary program through various forms of controversial conceptual art.

 

When Then Was Now (June 21 - July 8):

The collection of 50 photographs by "Bleacher Preacher", Jerry Pritikin, covers two historic eras; San Francisco's volatile 1970s gay rights movement + a rare collection showing Wrigley Field in the 80s even before lights were installed. This double header show is aimed to attract Cubs fans + LGBTQ audiences; exhibition at HumanThread Gallery (within BAC). 
  
Third Friday Open Studios:
Join the
Artists of Eastbank for Open Studios!  Wander in + out of studios, chat with artists + designers, enjoy light snacks + spirits, view demos, + have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind work.

Where: Bridgeport Art Center, 1200 W. 35th St., Chicago, IL (4th and 5th Floor)

When: Opening reception for exhibitions and Third Fridays on Friday, June 21, 6-10pm 


This Chicago Artists Coalition annual benefit pairs local visual artists with culinary talent to create edible "installations" to be enjoyed by the crowd and new works of art to be auctioned off at the end of the night.

Lakeside Legacy Arts Park will host the Lakeside Fest from July 3-7, offering live music, food/drinks, rides/games, historic tours + gallery exhibitions.  Attending + volunteering supports the Lakeside Legacy Foundation.
Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes opens June 29 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA).

On Monday, June 24, Marco Nereo Rotelli will illuminate the North + West facades of the Field Museum of Natural History with poetry + music. Free + open to the public; one-night only beginning at 9:30pm.  More details... Field

An exhibition of paintings + drawings by the artist will be on view at Hilton | Asmus Contemporary; reception Friday, June 28.
Get outside and walk among giants in 105 acres of rolling prairie. The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park offers 28 sculptures including works by diSuvero, Nauman, Puryear, Hunt, and Mary Miss. Programs and activities enhance visitors' understanding of the work and its setting.

Randolph Street Market June 29-30

The Randolph Street Market Festival returns to its indoor / outdoor West Loop space during the last weekend in June.  Stop by the Market to check out a wide range of unique finds - furniture, vintage clothing, jewelry, art, collectibles + much more - from hundreds of vendors.  Food + beverage vendors will also be on hand to nourish hungry shoppers.

Purchase tickets online for an advance/discounted price; tickets also available for purchase at the gate.
