Volunteers don't just DO work.
Volunteers MAKE IT WORK.

The New England Quilt Museum was founded in 1987 by a group of dedicated volunteers.
In the years to follow, it acquired staff in the form of a professional Executive Director and a tiny number of employees, all part-timers.

The museum been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for the excellence of its rotating exhibitions, its outstanding Permanent Collection of antique and contemporary quilts, and its lectures, workshops and other ongoing programs.

None of this is possible without dedicated volunteers who help run programs and the physical facility, keeping the wheels running smoothly.

Consider joining the NEQM volunteer team. Whether you can spare a few hours weekly, monthly, or just occasionally, your skills are needed. Training for all functions is provided.

Especially needed now: docents, library staff, and
a volunteer coordinator.

Help ensure that the museum is around for another 25 years, bringing the love of quilts to a new generation!

THREE MUSEUM VOLUNTEERS RETIRE

Three longtime museum volunteers recently announced their retirement. They received plaques of appreciation and warm thanks from other volunteers and staff.

Debbie Janes may be one of the most creative people ever to step through the museum's doors. Her beautiful, one-of-a-kind art quilts can be seen in the Museum Store. Over the years, Deb has generously volunteered to teach her techniques at the museum and during the Lowell Quilt Festival. She also created and led the museum's own "Mill Girls, a talented group who've made dozens of items for sale in the Museum Store. Vistors to the museum were often met by Deb's friendly face when she worked as a part-time store assistant. Although she will be retiring from her regular shifts at the museum, she has promised to continue to be involved whenever she can.

Mary and Tom James have been a dynamic duo at the museum for the better part of two decades. There is hardly a program at the museum or during the Lowell Quilt Festival that Mary hasn't been involved with and made better by her hard work. Tom, meantime, spearheaded recent improvements to the museum building, dealing with plumbing, lighting, roofing, electrical and other contractors. Someimes it feels like the museum is still standing only because of Tom's professionalism. Both Mary and Tom have also served on the museum's board of directors. The Jameses are retiring to their homes in New Hampshire and Florida, but like Deb, have promised to visit often and help out when they can.

All three will be very sorely missed. Our warmest thanks to them all!

Volunteers don't necessarily have the time.
They just have the heart.
