Hey Folks!
We have 3 amazing new classes coming up! Firstly, many of you remember the amazing Evan Morgan who worked here for many years. He will be returning in July to teach the new "Mirroring On Glass" class on July 20/21. Evan is one of the more amazing artists to ever work from this studio.....come take this wonderful class and get to see why!
As always, our most popular class; Beginner's Glass lover's Weekend will be held twice this summer. Once in July, once in August. If you ever wanted to try your hand at glass art.....give it a try!
Finally, we also have 2 very special classes....our Going Green - Turning Recycled Glass into Artwork! - 3-day workshop this class delves deeply into using recycled glass for spectacular sculptural and lighting pieces. This takes place over the July 4th weekend...the 5, 6, 7. thats a Fri/Sat/Sun class. Great way to spend the holiday!

Bullseye Roll-Up Class
This class allows you to fuse detailed imagery into glass, then have the assistance of a gaffer to help you blow it out into the shape you want it! This takes place on July 21st and 28th.

Our closest metro is the Rhode Island Metro on the Red Line. If you want to take a bus from the Metro, take the T18 to New Carrollton, the 82 to Mt Rainier, or the 83 bus to Cherry Hill; getting off at 37th Pl, and walk down to the school.

STUDIO SPACE AVAILABLE
If you have always wanted a studio space to work on your glass, but didn't have room where you live, or didn't have a huge amount to invest in a giant glass studio.....then you might like the thought of becoming one of the studio artists here. Your table/studio space runs $275 per month, and not only do you finally have a dedicated space for you to work in, but you also join a vibrant and successful community of glass artists and opportunities.
Holiday Party? Bridal Shower? Birthday Party? Team Building? Summer Associates?
The Washington Glass School is a great place to hold a social event with you and your friends or office mates!
You can each make your own small bowl....or all go in together to make a large bowl for that special someone or cause.
Cost is approx. $75 per person, and should take around 2 hours.

A unique educational program in the Nation's capital, The Washington Glass School and Creative Arts Community offers something for everyone with classes for both the beginning and seasoned artists. Beginning artists can get an overview of what we offer in the introductory weekend workshop (Beginner's Weekend), which introduces you to three different glass forming techniques used in the majority of the kiln-forming classes, or dive right in to any of our more specific courses. Our most popular class, this is the fastest way to learn all aspects of warm glass in the shortest amount of time! Under the supervision of a professional glass artist you will learn the fundamentals of fusing, slumping and dimensional kiln casting. Everything from bowls and plates to sculptural objects... this is the perfect way for a beginner to learn the basics of glass... and you will leave with several very cool items! Class 1401 - MIG Welding For Dummies!
Ever wondered about learning to weld? Want to impress your friends, your older brother and that cute bartender? It's easier than you think! In three evenings you will learn how to lay a bead, and handle all sorts of sharp and dangerous tools. You will be able to complete a small project and leave with lots of ideas and know-how for other projects. This class will teach you the basics of welding, metal work and design, joining, bending and finishing. And you will get dirty!

Tired of working flat? Want an easy way to get some real depth into your glass? Here's a fun class where you will learn one of the easiest methods of kilncasting sheet glass to achieve bas-relief sculpture. This incredibly versatile method has endless fine art and architectural applications. In this two day class, we will discuss different types of glass and their firing schedules. Working with color and how it can affect dimensional casting will also be explored. Bring items you may want to cast with this method or choose from our image library. All materials and firings included.

Now that you've tried your hand at MIG welding, the hot glue gun of the metal shop, why not expand your horizons? We will offer a truck load of new techniques. You can compare welding stainless steel vs. aluminum, and pit the plasma cutter vs. oxy-acetylene. You will also improve your MIG skills, and spend more time on grinding, polishing, finishing and patinas.
Remember--this is a real, live, active, working shop. You will get dirty. Wear closed toed shoes and long pants.
Pre-requisite: At least one MIG welding class or equivalent.
Green up your life by doing something creative to help the environment! This is an exploration into using recycled glass to make sculptural pieces, tableware, and architectural elements. We will delve into multiple techniques, including casting, fusing and slumping. Glass chemistry, coloration, and firing temperatures will be explained for each particular application. It is a fantastic way to learn aspects of any warm glass work while focusing on recycling! Once you start down the path of recycled glass, you will see more and more opportunities for experimentation around you. No prior experience is necessary - you are encouraged to bring in materials you'd like to try...and you will leave with several very cool items!

-------------------------------------------------------------- Class 1405- Bullseye Roll-Up Class
If you've ever been interested in making fused glass panels into blown vessels; then this is the class for you! Come experience one of the most exciting trends in glass - where you will get the best of both worlds. One class will be spent fusing a Bullseye glass panel at the Washington Glass School. The next class will be held at our sister school, DC Glassworks, where you will help to blow the fused glass panel into a vase, or a bowl....or even more sculptural! This class is for all experience levels, and is perfect for both fusers and blowers who want to see imagery in blown glass.
If you have ever gazed into a mirror and wondered how exactly does a sheet of glass become such a stunning reflective surface, then I invite you to journey down the rabbit hole into the seductive world of mirrored glass. This class will demystify the mirroring process without losing any of the magic, allowing each student the opportunity to create their own mirrored object.This two-day workshop will cover some simple chemistry, glass preparation and handling, chemical application and teamwork.
Flat glass will be available, however feel free to bring a small clear or transparent colored glass vessel such as a bottle, vase or dish, the cleaner the better. On the other hand - please bring clothes to get dirty in because the chemicals can be quite messy!See you on the other side of the looking glass!
Our instructor is supastar Evan Morgan - he's come back to DC teach this special class. Evan was born and raised in Hawaii but is now living outside of Athens, GA. Evan graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with a BFA in sculpture. He was raised around the arts and by sixteen he was helping build glass shops on the outer islands with his stepfather Hugh Jenkins. Glass became not only a passion but a challenge, Evan continued to blow glass through out high school, exhibiting in Hawaii Craftsmen by 1999.

Already know the basics of casting or fusing? Open Studio gives each student the opportunity to work independently in a world class studio. Tuition includes a kiln firing per session, clear base glass and colored scrap glass, use of studio tools. Note: students working in dry plaster casting need to schedule cleanup date with studio coordinator.
