About Abner Preis /
Abner Preis was born in Hadera (Israel, 1975) and raised in Akron, Ohio and later Philadelphia, where he earned a BFA at Tyler School of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in Rotterdam and is presently acquiring an MFA at the Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem. Known across the Netherlands for his interactive public performances and mixed-media work, Preis has appeared at important Dutch institutions such as Showroom Mama, TwenteWelle Museum, Museum Jan Cunen, De Kunsthal Rotterdam, Dordrechts Museum, IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam) and others. Since 2004, the central aspect of his work has been traditional storytelling, with narratives characterized by appropriation, participation, playfulness and a process, which is based on action and social engagement. In addition to the Netherlands, Preis’ work has been exhibited in the USA, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland, and he regularly performs in international art and public spaces, independently or in collaboration with his collective, The Dogs of Shame.
