Please join us at Gallery 825 on Thursday July 11, 2013 at 7pm for a special Conversations With The Artists.  Part of LAAA's ongoing ArtSpeak programming, this panel discussion will feature artists Steven Fujimoto, Ryan McCann and Tanya Nolan.

Steven Fujimoto's ambitious installation Request for Deviation/Waiver is both an interpretation of the Mars rover 'Curiosity,' as well as a metaphor for the impact of daily routines on our personal and professional existence. The artist also investigates the notion of agility-fully embodied in the installation and practiced throughout the creation of the piece.

Ryan McCann's exhibition Things I Wanted Too Sea reflects the artist's fascination with language and clever word play. This exhibit is a collection of phrases and words translated into a visual format using a variety of fire-based rendering techniques.

Tanya Nolan's new work You Made It addresses our collective addiction to busyness and Darwinian desire to get ahead. While exploring the line between physical and psychological space, Ms. Nolan uses neon and intact eggshells to form an environment that integrates the materials with the sacred gallery space. The viewer's mobility is limited as they enter a room with over 10,000 eggshells precariously lined up and a neon sign declaring "you made it." With the inability to travel far, the viewer must decide: leave the space and continue their busy lives; or stay and meditate on the repetition of eggshells, the idea of "making it," and their present environment.

Also on view:
Felicity Nove's new body of poured paintings Sense of Place expresses the artist's experience living in Los Angeles as an expatriate. Nove explores how urban imagery, spatial architecture and our experiences of virtual reality within globalized networks and daily communications acquire a cultural meaning beyond specific locations.
