Cheryl Pope's first solo exhibition in Chicago, Just Yell, closes this Saturday, August 3rd at moniquemeloche. Just Yell uses the framework of American High School: yellers (cheerleaders), yearbooks, Varsity patches, and car culture to contain reactions to the current gun violence that is plauging our city and nation.
Throughout her show, Pope has engaged the Chicago community through a series of in-gallery performances and panel discussions including: the opening night performance A Drive by in Five Acts as well as the MCA Creative Teen Agency staging a living room series on our Division and Leavitt corner, a panel discussion on the failure of social practice, and an informal discussion on gun violence in Chicago attended by Alderman Joe Moreno.
Just Yell has received tremendous applause for its ability to appropriate address the ever rising issue of gun violence.
This Saturday, Just Yell will conclude its successful run at moniquemeloche. Don't miss it!
