  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Terri Higgins - The deep ache that replaced the pleasure you used to have, the words someone said that you keep turning over and over in your head, the void inside that nothing seems to fill; these are some of the subjects I paint about. Location: Washington, DC Check out my website and blog:

Jose Freitascruz - Borneo > 2003 The tropical rainforest and tales of maritime exploration continue to be reflected in my work. Indeed, travel and displacement condition my work - the many places I lived in throughout my childhood and those others my chronic wanderlust has led me to since then have always had an impact on the choices and directions I have taken. The knowledge that a new perspective can be acquired over things we believe to be "fixed" triggers curiosity and fosters a certain degree of unconformity. The need to find and learn new ways to depict whatever it is I wish to depict keeps me on my toes and doesn't allow me to settle with the tools or the style I am already familiar with - I am constantly "on the move" and my painting is meant to be a record of the path I move along. Perceived from a distance my approach tends to be cyclic, each cycle divided into series. Progression occurs from the outside in aEUR" from the surface to the core, from a certain degree of figuration to abstraction. Upon tackling each new theme I will be struck by the outward aspect of things and charged with a strong desire ...

Jose Freitascruz - Hans-Ruedi Kammermann - Painting for me is passion, a fascinating process of seeing that alters the vision of things. The everyday becomes special, unique, unknown. What is seen, is never what is painted, yet the painting becomes a new reality. I don't invent abstract images but the act of accumulating material on the canvas creates form and color - being materialistic in order to transform matter into imagination and perception. In the process of painting I find new images, something appears, stimulates vision, projects lost or remembered entities, becomes alive and finally communicates. ...

Harry Bayley - My paintings are very much about expressing colour in different ways, which I incorporate into whatever painting that I am working on whether it be my own work or a commission. I think colour when used in a painting whether it be bold or subtle can make all the differnce. I would describe my paintings as absrtact, contemporary and full of colour expression....

Teresa Sherwin - I love to paint. I love the whole artistic process. I feel compelled to put paint to paper. Painting for me is about making myself happy with the end product. If other people enjoy what I do thats great, if they dont thats ok too. ...

Stephen Mead - In the early 1990's Stephen Mead's poems began appearing in such journals as Onionhead, Bellowing Ark, and Invert, but upon moving to Provincetown, Mass., Stephen decided to concentrate more on visual work. It was in the year 2000, after moving back to NY, that Stephen started seeking publication again for both his writing and his art combined. Since, then, thanks to the wonders of the World Wide Web, his work has appeared internationally both in cyberspace, hard copy, and physical Gallery Space. Often the writing has appeared along side his paintings, and at other times with the text superimposed. In 2004 Stephen began experimenting even more with these poetry/art hybrids creating a series of e books, including the award winning "We Are More Than Our Wounds". From there Stephen began experimenting with his art and poems as films, at first creating slideshows with captions, and then doing his own soundtracks and voice overdubs. These DVDs are available through Indieflix.com In 2006 Stephen put this technology to use releasing a CD of poems set to music "Safe & Other Love Poems" (CDBaby.com), as well as two print editions of his image/art hybrids, "Selected Works" and "Tree ...

Rachel Schneider - Rachel Schneider is an American Photographer well received by the American artistic community. Ms. Schneider's works have been regularly exhibited in galleries throughout the state of Texas. Her academic credentials include 5 years of formal study at Sam Houston State University in Texas as well as training at the Texas School for Professional Photography. Ms. Schneider prefers to photograph in Black and White; however, she also uses color film. Her images yield a very different and crisp vantage point of life. A trained eye will find her images to be high in contrast and highly detailed. When photographing, Ms. Schneider contemplates every technical and artistic aspect of the image in her mind before she even considers pushing the shutter. She believes in finding the subject, determining the tonal values, then taking the picture that completely utilizes the negative's space. Ms. Schneider does not believe in wasting any silver on the negative, and therefore, does not crop her images during the printing process. Critics have noted that her photographic style has the characteristics of Straight Photography and Documentary Photography. Ms. Schneider's portfolio contains images from her travels around the United States, England, Singapore, Tokyo and Malaysia. Her passion ...

Jacques Malo - A native of Cap de la Madeleine, Jacques Malo began his studies in fine arts at College and the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. During these years of training, he further explores the materials and assembly techniques of modern sculpture. In 1982 my artistic journey really took off, going away more and more of domination and the influence of my teachers of fine arts. The importance I attach to the spontaneity in the creative process was problematic in sculpture. Then I began to make an approach using Styrofoam as a material and the technique of direct carving, allowed me to shape volumes with a gesture so eager to be possible in size, the images arose in my mind. To get a solid finish and acceptable, I used the fibreglass, resin and paint spray. This artistic journey was the subject of my solo exhibition at the Imagier, gallery of art in Aylmer in 1984. The event'Sculptors at work' allowed me to explore other material, marble. Always with the technique of direct carving, I began to explore this area in order to truly know its challenges and achieve more, to measure my ability to overcome such material. ...

Guy Octaaf Moreaux - Since the end of August 2019 I moved back to Brussels, Belgium. The three years I spent in Kenya have been super interesting and moved me to paint my african impressions. I feel privileged to have learned so much of this wonderful part of the world which was quite foreign to me before. Life is full of emotions about people, nature, things etc...and leaving Kenya will be hard indeed. One of the biggest luxuries in life, is to live surrounded by beauty. This is what I am trying to do. And yes one can see beauty everywhere...it is a state of mind. Harmony is an integral part of beauty, this is what I am trying to convey in my work. It is indeed a necessity for me to create. It has always been this way for as far as I can remember. Not creating makes me feel empty and unfulfilled. In every day life it pervades all my actions, from cooking to finding different places to visit, walk, etc....Have a look at the furniture I created lower in my portfolio. The architects who sold my furniture were the first ones to sell my paintings. For painting, nature ...

Michal Ashkenasi - Welcome to my Portfolio! If you are wondering if this is just another floral/landscape artist,I am not! My work is abstract-figurative and ,as you see,I love color!!I work directly on the canvas and the images come out of my imagination or from my memory . I do Collages and Watercolor too , but for me , the most deep feelings come out with Oil or Acrylic. With those media I can fulfill the strong contrastes I work with , and which are part of my style....

Rita Levinsohn - Welcome to my world of Other Realities. I am a painter of mystical figurative paintings and abstractions composed of acrylic paint and found objects. My concern is for the future of our planet. The animate and inanimate objects within the paintings reflect many incarnations. The message being that it is possible to create rather than destroy....

Hampton Olfus - ARTIST STATEMENT Over the past twelve years, IaEURtmve been working in acrylic paint, ink, pencil and mixed media. During this time period, I was inspired by an assortment of topics, while repeating one of my mainstay topics, music, and culture. Creating in the moment, allows the intuitive sensibilities too be part of the process. I bring an eclectic aesthetics with me into the studio, which I transfer into what I create. My true emotions, is what I aspire to transfer, visually to the viewer, through the media. Hampton R. Olfus, Jr. Artist ...
