  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Chi Harkrader - Artist Statement A canvas, sculpture, or new media presents a stage for me to examine the visually driven attributes of light, perspective, color, form, and movement. Past experiences, present environment, imagination, and experimentation with mixed media allow me to echo my passions, peace, or pleasure. Expression from impressions encountered in urban, rural, or figurative life evolve. Form and color are fashioned from the physical, mental, or spiritual. Red and black may stir energy or passion. Ochre or sienna may prompt an affection of earth or rock. I draw, painting, sculpt or video with paint, found objects or software. Three-dimensional interior or exterior attachments are sometimes explored. My new work may shadow my previous series and motifs, as I strive for that elusive originality. My exploratory nature for diversity keeps me moving in and out of my compound-ongoing series (Action / Onyx / Lyric / Urban / Corolla). Sculpture and video now parallel my inventive journey. Linda Paul - Artists Statement" When asked 'What is your favorite painting', I always say, 'the next one I am going to paint!" Style: I don't paint in any one style, I let inspiration speak to me and I go with the flow. My work runs the gamut from chunky realism to abstract and impressionist painting. I use many different mediums to create my artworks. One of my favorites is egg tempera which I make by crushing stones and minerals and adding egg yolk. Blues come from crushed lapis lazuli, greens from malachite and natural green earth found around Verona Italy. I even use minerals found during hikes in the Rocky Mountains. I am captivated not only by the purity and naturalness of this medium, but by the science of it. Each pigment has its own set of properties and capabilities that must be explored. How better to express visions of the earth than with earth itself. This medium is luminous and lasts for centuries. also make my own acrylic paint in the same manner. By adding pure pigment to a acrylic polymer. I can add thing like crushed mica and pearlescents to make the painting come alive. Lately I have also ...

Pamela Gilbert - A Maine native, who now lives in the Finger Lakes area in Ithaca NY. I attended Portland School of Art and continued my art education at the U of Maine in Augusta.I exhibit regularly in regional and national juried shows and has sucecessfully had a one woman show at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine and at Sltes of Hollowell, Maine, Best of Show at the annual art show at Toas Ski Valley in New Mexico. My Paintings are also in private collections throughout the US,Canada and Mexico....

Chris Jehn - I am primarily a self taught artist and have always felt creative. I worked my way through college by teaching crafts at an arts and crafts store, everything from embroidery and macrame to tole painting and pottery. I have taken numerous workshops from other practicing artists. Being with a group of other artists creates a synergy that inspires me. I now primarily work with acrylics and collage. I especially love intense color, and have made a study of color composition. One of the main reasons I live in Colorado is because almost everywhere you look there is something wonderful, and IaEURtmm compelled to try to paint what I see and feel. ...

Darrell Ross - I am presently doing small painting on paper and large canvasses of abstract figures. I've always been interested in having a viewer confront the nondescript figure and respond to the pose and gesture. Also I am involve with a local non-profit artist in residence known as The BRIAR. A multi-function space of studios, artist lofts, classrooms, music rehearsal space, retail gallery and a state-of-the-art recording studio for music and video. Thank You www.darrellross.jigsy.com...

Einav Zilber - As an art lover, I want to see art not only in the museum or gallery but rather see art in my daily surroundings of where I live. Be it the hair dresser, a book shop, a cafe or the local launderette. I think there's something exciting about being able to see art everywhere, stop for a moment (or more) from the days' work and hectic life we live, to look and explore new realms of creation and give me another look and maybe even a glimpse to the creativity and life of others. This idea had been on my mind for a while, bit by bit I could see it come to life in Tel Aviv, where I live, not just the events the municipality make, but rather small initiatives. As a photographer it gives me a lot of space to enjoy and create. I call it Art Around. ...

Prabha Shah - There's a central theme underlining my work: India, or more specifically Rajasthan, in colours. Cities, streets, people, desert depictions fading rapidly, everything I love and miss. Emotional tension finds an outlet in the process of creation. People and historical events live inside me as shapes and colours. Colour is central to my painting. Life is the epitome of the universe. Through painting I try to stay close to those things I like but can't own. Things which often hurt us but we insist on desiring and loving in a unique way. The mysterious repetition of nothingness that torments us all. --Prabha Shah...

Iana Sophia - In my work I strive to create a fusion of traditional and experimental, figurative and abstract visions to arrive at a texture, an implication of a landscape, where the familiar dissolves into mostly impressionistic colour fields or configurations with physical, emotional or even cosmic ramifications. Iana Sophias art pulsates between the seen and envisioned, the figurative and abstract. Inspired by a mystical sensitivity and an appreciation of nature, these paintings draw the viewer into a place of contemplation, where the secrets of the work begin to unfold.A(c) DLS ...

Michael Arnold - Art for me is a creative release, therefore I have no boundaries in my work. I work on what moves me spiritually, visually and creatively. I enjoy many different styles including impressionism, pop art, abstract expressionism, naturalism, post-impressionism, art deco and contemporary. All of these styles influence my work, but do not define my style. I primarily work in acrylics, but have produced works in pastels, graphite, charcoal colored pencils and ink. Yeoun Lee - We're all affected by what we see around us, by our experience and also by our moods. My great source of inspiration comes from nature and colors. Through the observation of it, the memory of it, and my imagination of it, nature inspires me. When I look around at the moods and seasons of nature, I feel similarities to the changes in the journey of my life. Our life contains energetic, happy, joyful but also sad, hopeless and fearful moments. When the weather and seasons change, they are like the swing of my feelings, emotions and moods. I express all these changes with different colors which inspire me. I don't paint what I see. I paint what I feel. It's not ordinary landscape. It's imaginary landscape. Each scene calls forth a technique that uniquely fits it. Nature is showing me my life. As I recreate it, I am renewed. I imagine the scene and pick the color I feel like using and start painting. While I paint, I forget unnecessary thoughts and worries and thereby I heal myself. The colors and techniques which make up my own new world depend on my mood and feeling at ...

German Guerra - The reason for creation my abstract works is very simple and very complex. I feel the strong necessity to compose and produce this kind of work. For me iti?1/2s like a serious game with color, form and music. I doni?1/2t know what i?1/2am I looking fori?1/2 with my works, just I know that I have to do it. Other kind of work like Cityscape or Graffitis arise because it's part of interesting visual in each city. For me it's very complicated to walk everywhere without the camera. ...

Peter Dunckelmann - PDarts is a Melbourne-based creative studio that grew up on a well-known image editing software and uses it in all of its work. Driven and motivated to find creative outcomes, we use the computer as a tool and are comfortable working on it like a painter using a brush, for instance, finding inspiration through experimenting, which fosters the creation of new forms. Without fear of rules, conventions, or technical limitations, we mix different techniques and visual influences into our work. In our visual expression we love finding new ways to make images and for unexpected things to happen. We have a liking for abstract forms non-objective compositions and try to explore a lot more with colour. Usually what we have been doing so far, we just sit there layering images and see what comes out of it something that is completely unplanned. That is where we find that potential to grow and move forward in ways we didnt plan. The creative process itself is an experiment, becoming creative about the creation....
