  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Rickie Dickerson - I work from the core, I smear my guts on the canvas, all the pain and confusion...joy, lust and anger...right before your very eyes. I have to paint, I have no choice. My mentor, Luise "Mignon" Andersen, introduced me to acrylic paint and threw me deeper into the river of creativity. Everything I do is just to keep me from drowning... As for the photography, that's compulsive as well....

    C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Andrew Bartosz - One of the critics wrote: 'Andrew's gift for portraying the woman's body is inspiring. With master strokes Andrew captures both the beauty and complexity of a woman's nature. Andrew strikes us first with the evocative, soft, dreamy and colourful expression of a woman's body. But then he skilfully contrasts it, through structured elements and toned down colours of the background, with sharper, less perfect and darker images or moods. As result we have a unique experience of a sensual fusion between the abstract and the real. This theme of contrast continues in Andrew's stunning impressions of Australian majestic rock landscapes.' ...

Shelly Leitheiser - Art comes from my head and my heart. I care deeply about the environment and often do artwork expressing my interest in environmental topics. I also use my art work to tell stories and uncover truths. Water and paint are sometimes used but often I will use photography and digital painting programs to get the images I envision. I am a formally trained artist in fine art, and have recently left the world of painting realism as my interest in photography grows. Why should art and photography look the same? Now I do more impressionist art and also abstracts, many of them inspired by other worlds. The realistic painting I do these days is very contemporary. Art is a lot of work but it's also very rewarding for me when someone inquires further into the meaning of my art....

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity, and have recently teamed with SAVE THE BAY, a local Rhode Island eco-advocate organization, which receives 30 PER CENT of my proceeds. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. Ive done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorenas studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to ...

Marcia Freedman - My art process is part of the contemporary cultural dialogue, observing and commenting on events and things that already exist. I use organic forms found within landscape or the human body as a source. My work is based on visceral reactions based on the fluidity of life and changes that occur in the body due to the effects of genetics and/or the environment. Images of pods, organs, body parts, rocks and cellular forms deteriorate into abstract images conjuring up complex associations, perceptions and emotions connected to the human condition. Source materials are processed so that multiple readings are investigated. Abstract evolving imagery gives insight into the possibilities of processes both artistic and intellectual. The paintings integrate the personal and memory with organic objects exploring science with nature and the potential they present for investigating new ideas to describe the life cycle. They become a metaphor for internal landscapes and external perceptions but on a wider scale transcend the individual to a broader one, open to further interpretations. Original forms are fragmented, deconstructed, fractured and reconfigured into abstract forms as the creative process dictates the way. The physicality of the paint joined with resultant symbols is a narrative or dialogue ...

Edem Elesh - I am interested in examining the miracle of everyday existence. I have lead a very unique life. Born in Los Angeles and educated from an early age at English boarding schools, I have been exposed to two different cultures. This gives my work an American energy with English sensibilities. I am intrigued by the interplay born of this duality: order and chaos, old and new, the conscious and unconscious, structure and freedom. Not to mention expectation and accident. I am currently working with a new form of mixed media which allows, to an even greater extent, the chances of an interplay between process and providence....

Edem Elesh - Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style. Eve Co - I began painting and drawing in 1987 and have not stopped. I have a wide range from, landscapes, still-lifes, Hubble art galaxies nebulas, abstracts, florals, architectural art and so much more. I draw every day and paint as much as I can afford. I paint more watercolors than acrylic and oil canvas art. I would prefer more canvas art, but I make do with what I have. I try to express myself in artwork as well as with words. I paint landscapes, the glorious colors of nature, water, the ever expressive sky and more, primarily with watercolors on paper. These paintings are usually thought out and planned because they represent nature as I see nature. I paint still-lifes of everyday objects. To teach me about one particular color, shading and or painting glass. I think of still-lifes as a learning process that literally has me pulling my hair out in frustration, but I still paint through how they make me feel... I am fascinated with Hubble Space Technology so, I paint galaxies and nebulas on canvas with acrylic paints. I have sold many of these paintings and I must admit they are some of my favorite subjects...

Eve Co - Terry Mollo - ARTISTS STATEMENT Stone is my most important medium. The attributes of stone motivate me to seek and appreciate the beauty that has evolved with time and natures forces. Whether marble, travertine, alabaster, agate, onyx, each piece has its own story to tell. Its hues, striations, translucence, brilliance- and faults- have history and mystery to unlock. While carving I listen to the stone and carve only enough to find, and unleash, its organic lines and its aEURoevoice.aEUR Im inspired by the point at which natures organic form meets the inorganic. I concentrate on the force and tension created between the two, and search for the line that is formed by their union. In my sculpture, organic and inorganic form often conjure human emotion, human condition. Natures sea forms, shells and waves, suggest human form, depth, fluidity, texture, tone. Botanicals are sensuous with leaves and flowers that appear muscled and fleshy. Stems of flowers, such as orchids or lilies, stand tall, appear happy or courageous and proud, while other stems are viney or gnarled and appear desperate or defeated. All are similar to the ways in which the anatomy and musculature of the human body reflect its deepest feelings and emotion. Terry ...

Ted Schaal - Lately I have been exploring the use of two enduring materials, bronze and stainless steel. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the primitive texture in the bronze with the mirror polished modern look of the stainless. Balance and symmetry dominate simple geometric forms. These sculptures are made to last through the ages with the highest level of craftsmanship and quality metals. Most of my latest work can be scaled up for public or corporate settings and commission inquiries are welcome. With over 20 years of sculpture experience anything is possible from desk top size to monumental fountains and sculpture. ...

Donna Gallant - Art is a daily routine in my life. I see, hear, taste, feel and smell the life that surrounds me and I am inspired by the simplest aspects of this world. Whether it be the way the light hits an object or the way objects or forms move in space. I find it all so fascinating and alive. I try to portray these experiences and expressions through my art making....
