  • Artists Describing Their Art:

David Larson Evans - Without question drawing is the heart and soul of art.Becoming a trained draftsman helps to make us capable of mastering any medium.Studying Art for a lifetime ,from New York to Europe. I have many people to thank for helping make it a lifelong quest. In these etchings I am in search of something simple yet hopefully vital, even perhaps elemental(everyone can respond to something elemental). Clarity is important but by adding a hint of mystery i find it makes a more compelling and pleasing work of art. As a Printmaker it is often most difficult to force a piece of flat metal into a negative of an image that matches the original idea (whats in the had). It is a challenge to say the least. My etchings are always limited to 5o prints or less at which time the plates are defaced(keeping the low edtion size). One excitement of being an artist comes with the start of a new piece. Artist can often find inspiration in the other arts. Lately the opera has peaked some interest along with portrait painting in oils.It is wonderful when we find things that move us. The heart controls many ...

Gadadhar Das - Artist Statement: The Proper Counseling & Guidance can change the neglected & destitute street Children as a perfect human being. I think, the discarded Tree Roots & Branches would be an attractive Art object in the same way. I collect the discarded tree roots from Forest & roadside those are lying for destroy by fire or any other way. I try to identify the basic structural pieces of the roots and branches of various trees, driven by naturally possessed artistic vision and then shaping them to various final forms like Hindu Deities, Animals and various others objects etc., which are entirely hand made sculptors out of specially selected single pieces of roots and branches of trees of various shapes and sizes. I look forward sincerely for my work to earn its due appreciation among the art lovers. ...

D Loren Champlin - D. Loren Champlin currently resides in the highlands of Maine with his loving spouse and son. Champlin showed an interest in drawing very early in life. Champlin has been painting professionally since 1992. Early works were predominately done in pastels. After about 1997, he now works predominately in oils, yet the youthful spirit of his work remains the same. Champlin boldly uses colour and line to express his artistic vision. The colour is weaved together to form a tapestry. Bold lines give a feeling of motion and energy. His works are influenced by the passion and energy of life. Painting is the symphysis between artist and subject - the subject and the artist transcends a part of themselves to the painting creating a perfect union. It is a butterfly and the flower, the butterfly paints the flower flowing on the wind to the next to create new life - the miracle of pollenation. Painting is a way of thought. There are no words really to describe the process as thoughts are emotions and hues and shapes. It is calculated chaos resulting in harmony. Painting is to capture the spirit as if one could take a breath of wind, hold it and give...

Sarah Hauser - My working process involves moving ideas from one medium to another. A drawing may become a print which will become a sculpture -- then the sculpture can inspire drawings which are collaged with printed backgrounds, which gives me further ideas for creating environments composed of many sculpted objects. An important aspect of my work reflects a very direct connection I feel with animals. I am inspired by their emotional transparency and their fascination with any new object or situation: our cat who can be sleeping but becomes fully alert when anything new is brought into the apartment; the squirrel who comes to our fire escape every day to taunt our cat; the tiny sparrow who steals the large chunk of bread in mid-air as it's being thrown to a duck; the dogs that are so delighted to be out on a walk. Since the mid-nineties, I have pursued an ongoing series of drawings, paintings and prints of animals. Some of my newest works are strappo monotypes. Strappo is a process which was developed and taught to me by artist Harold Garde. The image is created by painting with acrylics on glass, then strengthening the surface using many layers ...

Can Yucel - I have been an airbrush artist for 30 years with my unique style in freehand airbrushing, and an hairy brush artist as long as I remember. Sculpture, molding, glass paintings are among my areas of interest. I play Spanish flamenco guitar and perform my own songs. Airbrushing on guitars and musical instruments are in my favourite areas of work....

Sallyann Mickel - SallyAnn Mickel has an artistic style which expresses her deep love of nature and animals and the joy she experiences while creating her artwork. After years of rendering nature subjects in an exact, realistic manner, Mickel has realized her own emotional response to the natural world. Her portraits and landscapes are done in an impressionistic style using a limited palette, thick, rich oil paint or pastels, and a simplified vision. Currently, Mickel is exploring the combined mediums of collage and pastel. A concern for the environment and wildlife are underlying theme's in Mickel's artwork; artwork that is continually evolving. SallyAnn received her basic art training from Towson State College in Baltimore, Maryland and various courses and workshops offered in the Maryland area. Her inspiration comes from nature and animals. Her animalscapes (as she calls her portraits) are done realistically and in an Impressionistic style with soft pastels on quality Mi-Tientes pastel paper. Her animal portraits have been juried in and have won awards in local and national art shows, including 'The Art Show At The Dog Show' in Wichita, KS and 'The Cat Show' in Rockville, MD. She has portraits in art collections from Baltimore, Maryland to ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Paul Orzech - Paul Orzech Sculpture Studio Artist Statement: The heart of my artwork is expressed by the words "Classical form with a modern edge." As an artist, I feel the need to incorporate the classic concepts of the human figure from the Ancient Greek and Italian Renaissance periods, with the more message-oriented elements of today's art. My belief in the beauty and power of the raw human form is exquisitely celebrated in the classical forms of sculpture. The modern themes I treat in my art include feminism; contemporary ideas of spirituality and love; and the all consuming presence time plays in our fast-paced American lives. I feel there is a quiet strength in the combination of established classics and contemporary expression that demonstrates a smooth continuity of social history. ...

Tim Murphy - I began creating paintings with flying figures in 1993. This central theme has evolved and been expressed in many ways in my paintings. The flying figures represent both a dream state and the conscious state awareness of being present in the moment. These images play with the similarities and differences of the two states of mind and how both are valued experiences over the alternative unaware and thoughtless moments in our lives. I like to think of my paintings as subconscious mirrors and that the relationship between the viewer and my work is a personal one. I create narratives that are open ended and I allow my subconscious to wander freely as I paint. Consequently, the story lines evolve as I work on each piece. A painting may hold multiple meanings for the viewer and these meanings can change over time, as they do for me. I incorporate variations of traditional painting techniques that invite viewers to enter these alternate worlds and discover what these mirrors hold for them. - Tim S. Murphy www.timmurphyart.com ...

Roberta Ekman - Roberta Ekman was born in Smithers, BC, Canada. Her family lived in Terrace, BC, but, because at that time there was no hospital in Terrace, her mother had to travel by car on the old rickety roads to Smithers, which had a hospital. She is the second youngest of a family of sixteen children from the same parents, Ted and Mary Johnston who were married in Terrace, BC. All the children were raised in Terrace. In the family there were two sets of twins of which she is one of the youngest set. She graduated from grade 12 at the Skeena High School. She has been drawing since she was very young and had no training, to speak of, in the field of art. She married Carl Ekman and raised five children. They now have seven grandchildren. Most of her life has been spent living in Terrace (except for the times spent in Alberta with her husband and another couple in a joint business venture). In between business ventures, she and her husband live in Terrace on their 35 acre property on the edge of the Kalum River canyon in a big log home which they built themselves with a ...

Roberta Ekman - Christine Lytwynczuk - Christine's paintings are about the human experience: relationships, emotions and introspection. She strives to evoke the feelings of empathy, hope, serenity and comfort through her work. Her paintings have a commanding presence, yet are quiet and exude a sense of intimacy. To be in a room with one of her paintings is like being in the presence of a close friend. Christine often paints children from different cultures, for children experience the same thoughts, fears, hopes and aspirations as adults, but they do not have emotional masks to hide behind. She paints from different cultures to highlight our inner similarities and because she is enthralled with the diverse ornamentation and design found throughout all lands. She feels that cultural decoration adds richness and beauty to life, especially when harmonized with the native landscape. Christine Lytwynczuk was born in Tucson, AZ in 1974. She spent most of her formative years, and as much time as possible now, in the Sonoran Desert. Her love of the desert and nature is revealed in many of her paintings. For twelve years she attended an open-classroom school where she had unlimited access to art materials. During high school she spent a summer in ...
