  • Artists Describing Their Art:

David Welsh - Iwona Jankowski - My first works of art I have created as a child depicted horses. Drawing them, I thought I could feel every muscle of the horse I drew. It was far from perfect but the feeling remains. Even today, after many years, my favorite subject is Horses. For me the horse, beside the beautiful gracious body, is a symbol of a free soul, loyalty and trust. Especially Ii?1/2m fascinated by their eyes. An eye, as old people say, is a window to a soul. When you look in their trustful eyes, you can see they want to connect with us and are always as a vivid shadow that needs to be close, to follow and to please, and blindly doni?1/2t expect anything in return i?1/2 just hopes for love and simple friendship for life. Over the past ten years my work has transformed from a semi-realistic, simplified close-ups of my subjects, into a floating, colorful i?1/2Mottledi?1/2 compositions. My Mottled Horses - Equine art developed since 2003-4 in my new i?1/2Mottledi?1/2 style that merges abstract and expressionism with a touch of realism. The subject is created on a colorful abstract background to express feelings, often shown as a close-...

Kevin Wakefield - I love the drama of staged lighting to create extraordinary depth, contrast and exciting, bold, value and color changes. Revieling the third dimension with strong visual communication. Painting subject matter that may convey sensuality, to spark arousal, change tention to serenity, or envoke art appreciation, aesthetics, create a multisensory connection to viewers and expanded vision are goals l am to achieve....

Sylva Zalmanson - Before I became a painter, before I even thought I could, I would look for long hours at the pictures painted by beloved artists and feel their deep pain. I felt that I was not the only one in this world that had a desperate need to make everyone cognizant of this sorrow. Can anything be more important than irresistible art luring and hypnotizing down through the generations with its mysterious riddle and its genius magic touch....

Yuliy Takov - The Hunting Trophies series consists of 25 gouache and ink works on paper. The dictionary defines hunting as 'the pursuit of game or the activity of searching for something'. The later can be said of art as well. In my hunting series the hunter and his trophy are always present. The moment when the hunter poses with his trophy is the most intriguing for me. There are two motives here: the moment of success, and the position of dominance. The theme of the position of dominance, its interpretation and the way it is presented runs through the last few years of my artistic practice bridging my abstract paintings with the hunting series. The process of creating a painting begins in a state of maximum closeness with the event and develops to the state of separation from it. Eventually my aim is to focus on the image and its interpretation as interrelation of abstract forms. At this state the subject is taken out of its everyday context and helps to extract its essence - to see it without the blinding presence of familiarity. The rhythmically spaced cylinders and twisted grids which I use are an attempt to remodel and to interrupt horizontal...

Nicole Pereira - NICOLE PEREIRA Nicole Pereira is a young rising artist who started producing artwork at the young age of 4. Nicole noticed that she had a gift for art when her artwork was selected in her local public school and community art competitions. The local press also started raving about Nicoles work. With encouragement from her family and friends, Nicole now devotes all of her free time to paint abstract portraits that express her feelings and emotions. Originally, she started drawing realistic portraits of individuals and celebrities, but felt that she wanted to add more. By careful reinterpretation of the portrait, the use of broad brushstrokes and vivid colors, Nicole conveys her thoughts, feelings and emotion to the canvas to create unusual artwork. Nicole is just beginning to get recognition in the art world as a gifted and unique artist and her potential is unlimited....

Jacinta Crowley_Long - Living surrounded by her animals in Wicklow, Ireland, this professional artist has a deserved reputation as Irelands foremost contemporary canine and equestrian artist. An award winning full time professional artist, Jacinta graduated with a PhD from University College, Cork and now has both a national and international reputation for her paintings of rural landscapes, country life, period interiors and equine and dog studies. She lives in and works from an 18th century country rectory in the heart of Wicklow. Her subject matter depicts the genteel splendour, pursuits and often eccentricities of Irelands surviving country houses and demesnes. She has been selected in recent years to exhibit at the prestigious International Exhibition of Equestrian Art at both Chisties and the Mall Galleries, London. This exhibition is staged annually to showcase the work of the best of International Equine artists. The empathy she clearly has for her subjects, allied with her technical ability, knowledge of anatomy and acute observation can be seen in her evocative paintings of animals and country artifacts - all drawn from the farmyard, gardens and fields surrounding her home. Her landscapes portray an other-worldly atmosphere of moments caught in time and depict anachronistic experiences and a way of...

David Welsh - David Welsh was born in Derbyshire (1937), and educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge. Now retired, his main career has been as a teacher, but painting has never been far behind, especially in the last ten years. He enjoys portrait painting as well as landscape work where his specialities are the effect of light, often on water, and interesting and dramatic clouds and skies. He has always worked in oils, a medium that he finds very suitable for all the effects he wants to achieve. He has been much influenced by a group of contemporary English artists, who are not Avant-garde, but rather proceed from the Impressionist tradition. He admires, among others, artists like Roy Petley, Fred Cuming, Ken Howard and Bernard Dunstan. ...

David Welsh - Michelle Iglesias - As an active member of the National Association of Women Artists, Oil Painters of America and the Berkshire Art Association, Michelle Iglesias is a self-taught artist who first took to painting for its therapeutic values after being diagnosed with cancer. Her passion and perseverance has led her to become a nationally recognized award-winning artist, art instructor, and the successful business owner of Berkshire Paint and Sip. She continues to encourage and foster creativity in her students and others inspired by her art. Ms. IglesiasaEURtm paintings are influenced by family connections, nature, and travel. Massimo Zilioli - I am born in the' 53, to Turin (Italy), but I consider an italian stateless person. Michael Weatherly - Art speaks to anyone. It can lift your spirits, provoke your thoughts and calm your emotions. A continuing desire to grow and express has driven my creation of original works - The past and the present connect. Creating a work of art is, having traveled various roads through experimentation until reaching the culmination of an organic art form implementing abstract-figurative elements that emphasize textures and non-conventional forms. It is through experimentation and the search of new techniques that I imprint my work with imagery that reminds us of the natural world. For me, creating is a liberating experience - I am always in a happy state even during the times when I struggle with the process. The creative journey starts with a concept - it's just me and the blank canvas, paper or object...my senses awaken...the process is a thrill ...I progress through stages...it becomes. Michael J Weatherly ...

Hal Studholme - Early Years I was raised by elves on the Icelandic coast. There they taught me to fish and become invisible. Some of my fondest memories are of swimming in the waters of Bluetooth Bay. They also taught me to sail, and one day while sailing a strong current pulled across the ocean and I wound up on the beach in New Jersey. Soon I landed a great job working on the Boardwalk. Later Early Years I attended college in the American Midwest, and there I learned to ice fish and command dog sleds. This little adventure inspired me to move to New York City where I started a dance company for small dogs. I built up a small nest egg and moseyed on out to southern California where I got a job as a wandering yogi. It was a period of immense change and a challenge to my very spirit. While in Los Angeles I heard that Trenton, New Jersey had become the art capital of the western hemisphere. I was not surprised. So I moved to Trenton and began my artistic studies there....
