Artists Describing Their Art:

Debbi Chan - I am going to do an updated artist's statement. But until I submit it you have a short temporary one. As an artist I an fullfilled and contend. But at the same time I seek more , absorb more, and enjoy more. Art fills and fullfills me..I am always being an artist. My eyes see art always. This is not a hobby that I partake of when time suits. Art feeds me. Art consoles me. And being prolific it also takes my time. And for this I am thankful that i listened to my inner self. I am thankful for a following that grows by the minute. I enjoy you enjoying my portfolio. I also have come to realize that the coined phrase "starving artist" is a reality for some of us. But if you take another quote, my own , you will see that starving and rich pertain to material $. because of you the viewers , and because art is my life and my passion I can truly say that I AM RICH.. RICH WITH NO MONEY... and I can also say with truth that I am happy. I chose the path that allowed this rich life. There will continue ...

Claire Denarie - 'Nothing pleases me more than the grotesque of human nature! I don't do pretty and I become colour-blind when it comes to pastels and sober colours'. Her combinations of colour and composition are imaginative and at times, unexpected. In her art she wouldn't dream of plagiarising nature because, and I quote the artist, 'a) I'm not that good and b) I'd rather buy a postcard.' Nature, for Soffietti, is mysterious and perfect and ought to remain untouched in its finished state. She allows herself to marvel, not to comprehend it when it comes to the eye. The artist admits: 'I paint to translate the incongruities of my mind, and stop when it fails to entertain me'...

Peter Sukosd - The feelings I illustrate on the canvas can vary on the scale of the moods, by reaching the peak point of them and then sliding down gradually to the depression and emotional deepness itself. This conflict and contradict that I always try to visualize on my paintings, that shows that every feeling is a mixture of its opposite, and thus you can never find reconciliation in them, you can just accept their existence as they are. This acquisence and reconciliation to this fact makes my paintings that solid every time, after illustrating all the possible limits of the human emotions in one circle, limiting it to the canvas itself I am painting to. Finally as related to the methods I paint let me just say that I am only the tool of the feelings I want to highlight and the painting is the best way for me to do it, consequently I play only a minor role in the whole process, where the impressions take the main role....

Lynda Lehmann - I have participated in numerous juried shows and had solo shows of my paintings. Ive sold my photography and digital art online, in galleries and other real-time venues, although I am currently marketing my work primarily online. My stock art sells well and Ive sold at least 2400 images in that venue. Life events had steered me away from painting but I am jumping back into that part of my process and hope to have new paintings online within the next few months. OTHER STUFF My painting Bibliophiles Dream has been featured on the cover of the Insights Journal of Austin Seminary. My paining Damariscotta Dream has been used for the cover of Chuck Sweetmans poetry chapbook published by Dream Horse Press. My image Enchanted Forest was used by the Sierra Club in their online feature Daily Ray of Hope. The Yellow Door has been published in Long Islands Canvas Magazine. I was a featured artist at Imagekind in July and have been featured from time to time on my other sites as well. February 1 - 28, 2009 - Metrimorphic III featuring new abstract paintings combining biomorphic and geometric elements, Harborfields Library, Greenlawn, NY. Due to time constraints I will ...

Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. I intentionally limit my time to 2 hours after which I stop and throw ...

Sammi Martin - My art is very versatile due to the variety of clients worldwide! This has always been a challenge, as I enjoy exploring art in its many dimensions. My art covers a wide variety of styles and materials such as art deco, geometrics and abstracts - representational to whimsical, decorative paintings, and reliefs on wood or canvas, screens or murals. My extensive client list has allowed me to explore many venues such as hospitality, corporate, commercial and residential. Enjoy the website, and be sure to visit our Los Angeles Gallery! ...

Eugen Varzic - Very early, as a small boy, I have defined myself as an artist. Of the wounds I have the design, the walls, benches, paper. 1999. degree in painting. Painting as breathing. To be the same, and in a permanent change. So I entered the world of painting. This idea leads me all the time, and I have to admit that sometimes it is not easy. I think that the work of painter most loneliest job. My wish is to stay on my way, and honestly continue to create art every day.To learn and see more. At least once by the end of life re-discover the child in myself. Inspiration is music. Sometimes in the silence I could not take the brush in hand ... Inspiration is the written word. Inspiration in history, religion, practically in everything. A main inspiration and the center of my art is man. Inspiration is the history of art. All. All. With the same passion I feel the bulls in Altamira and sculptures of Damien Hirst . I like to paint, I love to create some new worlds. Sometimes I think over my artwork. These are my painted logs that show me when I was happy, ...

Cathy Horner - Making art brings me great joy, and I believe each canvas is like a brief moment in an untold story. My collage art is inspired by vintage images found in old magazines, catalogs and books. I am fascinated by these forgotten treasures and the people who left them on shelves and in boxes in basements and attics for me to rediscover. By the time I find them the paper is yellowed and faded, mice have chewed the corners and insects and moths have made their holes. But these images are precious to me. I imagine the time when they were brand new and the dreams they inspired - of beautiful fashions or traveling to far away places. They are as fresh and brimming with innovation to my eyes as they were to the eyes that saw them the first time around. When I choose the images for a collage I am conscious that the final result will be whimsical, often surreal, while remaining visually rooted in times past. And it is my intention not only to stir imaginations, but also to encourage a sort of sentimental nostalgia. I use a combination of media in my work, including paint, found objects, computer ...

Ze Daluz - my work is a collage of impressions meant to stimulate your senses with color and motion, real and imaginary. melding photography with digital graphics, i create portraits of people and places. my goal is to elicit an emotional response from the viewer; a sense of uncertain recognition of people and places they thought were uniquely theirs. i have worked with and studied many forms of artistic expression including drawing, painting, photography, computer graphics, poetry, fiber arts, and hand-built ceramics. although i continue to produce work in most of these disciplines, photo art is the medium i am using to communicate with my audience. ...

Teresa Rodero Valero - Since I was a child I have liked to draw every piece of paper at hand, and for me that moment was like being in a different world, everything around me stopped. As a teenager I discovered photography and macrophotography; and the time spent in the dark room was very pleasant seeing things appear on the paper, as they were being developed. The next following years I was teaching Spanish to foreigners, but one day I realized that I wanted to continue drawing and painting, and here I am. Now I am completly dedicated to the world of the Fine Arts. I like to do my works by series, botannical, landscapes, sculptures, abstracts... one can see easily my evolution. Perhaps looking through the lens of the camera has influenced my way of painting, and seeing the world as a theme to be interpreted. I may combine reality with photography, photography with computer and interior world etc, it depends on the mood. Lately I have discover the possibilities that the computer offers to my work, I find it very useful to do my sketchs and then materialize them on linen or whatever the support may be. Now I teach young people ...
