  • Artists Describing Their Art:

German Guerra - The reason for creation my abstract works is very simple and very complex. I feel the strong necessity to compose and produce this kind of work. For me iti?1/2s like a serious game with color, form and music. I doni?1/2t know what i?1/2am I looking fori?1/2 with my works, just I know that I have to do it. Other kind of work like Cityscape or Graffitis arise because it's part of interesting visual in each city. For me it's very complicated to walk everywhere without the camera. ...

Leonard Parker - Dr. Leonard W. Parker's artistic style lends realism to his landscapes and seascapes by viewing both from a distance or up close! As a university professor, he has grasped the techniques of oil painting from his own personal research and study. His works have been displayed locally, but his desire is to gain wider notariety. Parker has adopted the phrase "'Scapes in oil" to tell both buyers and sellers that his greatest love is representing as real as possible God's wonderful world in which we live! One would desire to display his landscapes and seascapes in a variety of settings. Dr. Parker also has had commissioned art from photographs. Buyers of his artwork have come to cherish their original oil painting on canvas as heirlooms. ...

Maryann Burton - Find more of my work at MaryannBurton.com Creating a painting is an adventure that begins with how I perceive the world around me. Inspiration, many times, comes from the play of light, how it creates and dissipates color, and whether it is absorbed or reflected. It is a challenge to my senses and technical skills, expressing these effects on paper. The flow, spontaneity, and feel of painting with watercolor thrills me. The unpredictability of the medium is part of the fun. Whether evoking a feeling or a memory, bringing someone a sense of peace or joy, or reminding them of a familiar time or place, I like to make an emotional connection through my artwork. ...

Claudette Losier - Artistic Statement - Claudette Losier (LosiersArt) "Where Beauty Lies " "The artist knows that even though he has created something beautiful, it can be destroyed. His real and innermost satisfaction is not in the object, but in the subject; that thing within him that penetrates the mystic splendor of Beauty itself." (Ernest Holmes pg 39) One of my bodies of work explores the concept of Paradise as something sought after by modern society. My search centres on gardens--as near as our own backyard and as far away as other continents or the imaginary garden in our consciousness. It has been stated that each garden reflects our longing for spiritual peace--a tie with our primeordal beginnings. It is in the beauty of nature where I find this spiritual peace from a homemade garden to a formal garden, from a tree to the vastness of Grand Canyon, from a rocky coast line to the calmness of a man made pond. In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Power of Intention" he quotes from Emily Dickson and John Keats(pg 51): "Beauty is not caused. It is " As you awaken to your divine nature, you'll begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, ...

Claudette Losier - Habib Ayat - i have an immortal passion colour, and composition. I believe the most complex emotions can be evoked from the simpliest of forms. My style explores the relationship between colors shapes and structures living within irrational thoughts and emotions. I begin a piece very spontaneously and become more detailed as the composition starts to show itself. The process involves layering. The first layers are the most erratic and freeform, similar to automatic writing. Paint is applied liberally during this time creating thick textures. I sometimes add other elements like pumice, gels, and collage in these early layers. I notice different characters and forms in the middle of the process, which I then nurture and allow to develop almost at their own will. There comes a point in every painting when I surrender control over to the work, and it decides the rest of the composition. I derive titles in the same spontaneous fashion that the work is created. They are intended to give the painting an identity and character. My color theory, which seems to be the most immediate aspect of my work to the viewer, is very instinctive and unorthodox. In recent years I've been using more neutrals and ...

Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. I intentionally limit my time to 2 hours after which I stop and throw ...

Claudio Vianna - Claudio Vianna - Christopher Brennan - My work typically uses rather barren urban landscapes and interiors as vehicles to portray an introspective and contemplative response to the mundane and commonplace. I put an emphasis on the drama of light and shadow, which serves partly to describe form, but which also becomes a metaphor for the passage of time and of our fleeting existence. Despite a somewhat believable look to the images, I work from a variety of sources, piecing together a range of imagery into a single work, and so the paintings become primarily invented and imagined. ...

Winnie Davies - I started my initial art training with traditional Chinese painting and Chinese Calligraphy. I've found that the traditional art training gave me a good foundation for my further development of art, even in oil painting and sculpture. I love art of all forms and all media, art shouldn't have any limitation....
