Artists Describing Their Art:
Mary White - I have been a practicing illustrator and graphic designer for more than 25 years. The majority of my work is executed with traditional mediums -- but lately, I have begun introducing some digital compliments to the imagery. Thematically, I produce work for both commercial and editorial purposes. I prefer the editorial work and the challenges that are most often presented in attempting to successfully execute imagery to compliment abstract concepts. Please do not hesitate to contact me for a quote or to discuss a possible project. Thank you for looking....
Michael Leyton - In his MIT Press book, Symmetry, Causality, Mind (630pages) and his book in Springer-Verlag, A Generative Theory of Shape (550pages), Michael Leyton has elaborated an extensive theory of why art has such a powerful impact on the human mind. This results in an ability to intensify the content of artworks through an increased understanding of compositional organization, that Leyton has provided in his scientific work, which includes his mathematical foundations for geometry. For example, theorems of his, such as the Symmetry-Curvature Duality Theorem, which are now used in over 40 disciplines including many branches of medicine and engineering, also explain the human perceptual response to art-works. Not only has he demonstrated this in his lengthy published analyses of classical and modern artists, but he has also demonstrated that it is possible to surpass the intensity of these artists. This he has done by using the theory developed in his books in the creation of his own artworks - his paintings, his published architectural designs, and the published scores of his musical compositions. The portfolio at the present site is currently under construction. While this is in progress, the reader can gain an extensive introduction to Leyton's artistic ...

Teresa Rodero Valero - Since I was a child I have liked to draw every piece of paper at hand, and for me that moment was like being in a different world, everything around me stopped. As a teenager I discovered photography and macrophotography; and the time spent in the dark room was very pleasant seeing things appear on the paper, as they were being developed. The next following years I was teaching Spanish to foreigners, but one day I realized that I wanted to continue drawing and painting, and here I am. Now I am completly dedicated to the world of the Fine Arts. I like to do my works by series, botannical, landscapes, sculptures, abstracts... one can see easily my evolution. Perhaps looking through the lens of the camera has influenced my way of painting, and seeing the world as a theme to be interpreted. I may combine reality with photography, photography with computer and interior world etc, it depends on the mood. Lately I have discover the possibilities that the computer offers to my work, I find it very useful to do my sketchs and then materialize them on linen or whatever the support may be. Now I teach young people ...
Hans-Ruedi Kammermann - Painting for me is passion, a fascinating process of seeing that alters the vision of things. The everyday becomes special, unique, unknown. What is seen, is never what is painted, yet the painting becomes a new reality. I don't invent abstract images but the act of accumulating material on the canvas creates form and color - being materialistic in order to transform matter into imagination and perception. In the process of painting I find new images, something appears, stimulates vision, projects lost or remembered entities, becomes alive and finally communicates. ...
Lisa Perkins - Artist Statement As a fine artist and an art educator, I find myself experimenting with multiple ways of making art in order to broaden my experience and understanding of different processes. I try everything from pottery to digital photography, but find myself concentrating on three major areas: oil painted illustrations, monoprinting, and photography. Having graduated with a concentration in illustration, I have built up a portfolio of illustrations and an understanding of the business. I've concentrated on creating paintings that illustrate political, social, or cultural themes. Illustration has become my most effective way of expressing my opinions and beliefs on current topics. Throughout my experience with illustration, I've come to notice a certain style I work into my paintings; flat, smooth color dominates, with fine line work in select areas to lend details or break up a large area of color. Recently I've continued this technique and widened my scope of illustrations to include portraiture. In select areas of the works, I've also incorporated use of printmaking, usually monoprinting in particular. Monoprinting has been a technique I've used in my personal works; each series I create involves a process of layering transparent and semi-opaque ...
